My favourite performance from her would be in Dr Who State of Decay, brilliant, best of Tom's latter stories, Rachel is a fantastic actress

I have just been watching Rachel in an episode of "Tales Of The Unexpected" called " The Man At The Top" and have decided to dedicate a thread to her. She has had many TV appearences in several of my favourite shows. She was married to a member of a rock band and travelling on the road with them in an episode of "Midsomer Murders" called "The Axeman Cometh". She was the mother of a murder suspect in the "Trial & Retribution" two-parter "The Sins Of The Father".
In Cult TV shows, Rachel has made various appearences. In an episode of "Thriller", she played Nigel Havers girlfriend in "The Next Voice You See". She was a villain's bit on the side in an episode of "The Sweeney" called "One Of Your Own". In the "Minder" episode "A Nice Little Wine" she worked for an agency that provides massages for paying clients. She went further than the other girls by drugging her clients with a glass of wine and robbing them blind. Rachel was also in the film "A Private Function" and has a very sexy scene with Pete Posthlewaite.
My favourite of Rachel's appearences has to be her episode of "Hammer House Of Horror", where she and husband Nicholas Ball put their 8 year old daughter through a macarbe and cruel chain of events in order to make a best-selling novel, much in the vein of "The Amitville Horror". It has a breathtaking twist at the end though and makes for superb creepy horror entertainment.

I like Rachel Davies as well, a gritty northern lass, I recall her in small parts in Yanks and in mid-70's Corrie, I'm not a regular Emmerdale viewer but I recall her in that also, I believe her character was killed off, not seen much of her in recent years though.......

A fine episode from a great series. The 8 year old daughter was played by
future 80's "wild child" Emma Ridley.
Thanks for all your comments. I have never seen Rachel's "Dr Who" story, "State Of Decay". One to look out for.

PLEASE do yourself a favour and watch it, it was a story written by Terrance Dicks, and should have been made a lot earlier, it does outshine the stories around it, warriors Gate, Full Circle, Meglos etc
She is very good in it, you will enjoy im sure, very gothic, very good show :-)
I watched Rachel recently in a repeat showing of Buried Treasure with the late John Thaw and Dominique Jackson.
I'm, personally, not a great John Thaw fan - but I do enjoy this TV film.![]()
Rachel was (briefly) in A Passionate Woman on BBC1 last night, playing Billie Piper's mum.
I have always considered Rahel Davies to be one of the finest TV actors we have. Whatever she has appeared in has always lifted a mundane play or soap to another level. I saw her last night and was quite surprised by her appearance. But sh appeared to have no make up on.
Rachel Davies played Doreen Evans in all 13 episodes of the first series of Boon (one of my all time favourite TV programmes).
Doreen Evans (Rachel Davies) with Harry Crawford (David Daker) and Ken Boon (Michael Elphick)

I'm in full agreement a very, very sexy girl and yes the scene in "A Private Function" was very saucy
Where is she from? I'm trying to place her accent - is it Manchester?name='Mark O' timestamp='1270934861' post='413284']

I remember from S1 of Boon - one of my favourite TV programmes as well.

Rachel sounds like a lassie from Lancashire to me, there's no biography on her IMDB page unfortunately, I recall her in one General election party political broadcast in the 80's promoting Labour to we viewers, I was quite transfixed by her.

So she's a Labour supporter as well. This woman's talents are limitless.![]()

She most definitely is w, I don't recall which general election it was but I'd say either '87 or '92, it was quite a lengthy PPB, the actress Kate Williams and the late great Pat Phoenix were staunch Labour supporters also.

Cheers for the info Mark.

Hello again, wellend. While working on this post, I've found out my mother's coming back from hospital today so, as her full-time carer here, it'll be back to grim reality in a few hours time. At least I've done something during my brief return. To quote our Rowdon, "the pressure's on for (me) to come up with some major posts" until then! I hope I have enough time to create at least one thread, which (all being well, of course) will be another 'Miscellaneous Locations' one, this time in the film section.
It's taken a long time for me to make my first contribution here, but Rachel has recently turned up as a guest on two favourite shows I've watched on DVD and, after years of only knowing her by name, I should be able to recognise her from now on. A few weeks ago, I saw her in Tales of the Unexpected: The Man at the Top, as a prostitute that sailor Peter Firth visits, and then, soon afterwards, in The Sweeney episode One of Your Own, playing the devious girlfriend of Michael Elphick, her future co-star in Boon. She eventually boards a plane with ITC legend Neil Hallett instead! This close-up is from a scene with the former Ghost Squad star, where they discuss their plans following Michael's release from Wormwood Scrubs:
"Yeah, well. He has got out, and we haven't got six months. And tomorrow morning he's gonna want the diamonds."
Original ITV Transmission: 9th November 1978, when Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta were No. 1 for the sixth week with Summer Nights (!)
Added bonus:
An article from almost exactly three years earlier, in which we discover her connection with someone I remember from The Guinness Book of Records:
So now we know (in answer to the question that was posed earlier) ... Rachel was "born in Manchester".
Getting to Know You:
I'll be watching her episode of Hammer House of Horror soon & there might be one or two appearances on the 1970s Coronation Street DVDs.

On the network DVD of Corrie's 1976 selected episodes she's in episode two playing the character of Donna Parker.
Your mother has my thoughts and best wishes, cornershop.
