My mother also read a couple of years ago that he's always throwing parties in his room and driving the staff round the bend! I don't know how true that is - she could have read it in the 'Mail'!

But I do hope it's true. And it sounds like a sitcom he could star in.

That's the kind of OAP I aspire to - Victor Meldrew meets Hugh Hefner. Good on him.

As far as I know Richard O'Sullivan is still with us :) and a resident at Brinsworth House Returement Home for Actors etc in Surrey, he suffered a stroke aged 59.

Bats.
So - that just confirms that I was right then! And, just to clarify, Brinsworth House is in Twickenham which is in MIDDLESEX. It is miles away from Surrey and it isn't in West London either. I support Rustle Grunt on that one!

I used to live in Kingston, which people always mistakenly think is in Surrey. The weird thing is Surrey county council HQ and ofifces are there.

But isn't Middlesex a bit like Ruritania?

My Dad used to run an amateur dance band and toured around the place quite a bit. Amongst many other curiosities he used to collect Town Halls that were in the wrong place - like Brixton Town Hall which is in Lambeth, not Brixton.

Torq - Kingston IS in Surrey. (Unless it's Kingston-upon-Hull)
Surrey Police HQ, however, is in Staines - in Middlesex.

They can try moving the counties around as much as they like, but I live in Middlesex and I shall not be moved!

Kingston upon Thames used to be in Surrey. But London spread out and took it over. It's now a London borough, the Royal borough of Kingston upon Thames. That takes in the old municipal boroughs of Kingston, Malden & Coombe and Surbiton.

It's a bit like where I live, in Morden. We used to be a town in Surrey but London spread out and formed the London borough of Merton which takes in Mitcham, Morden, Wimbledon and Merton. But we're not a London numbered post code, we're not SW anything like Wimbledon and other places a bit closer to central London are, Morden is still SM postcodes. For our postal address, if you use counties in the postal address which the Royal Mail don't do any more, then we are in Morden, Surrey. But administratively we're part of London. That's life on the edge (of London)

Of course, I know you're right, Steve - I'm just getting too long in the tooth to appreciate the constant changes forced on me, so I decided that I'm staying in Middlesex whatever the bureaucrats decide to do next!
In my mind a LONDON Borough should have a London postcode or it isn't London. On the other hand, why do they often say that Chingford is in Essex when it's E4? But then, I'm a simple girl - I like things kept simple!
At least Livingstone can't get his hands on me just yet - even though he'd dearly love to!

The Isle of Wight was also in Hampshire! I was born in Middlesex, dangerously a River Thames width away from Surrey, so Middlesex Cricket it is for me and my Middx-born brother.
