Muriel P: ... it's been such a marvellous career, from the point of view of giving one such wonderful opportunities for seeing the world. Because after that, Derek and I did a long tour of Australia and New Zealand, that lasted for 14 months and came back and did a play at the Aldwych which flopped. Then we went back to Australia and New Zealand for another year. On both these tours we were doing commercial comedies, the first one was Odd Man In... No, the first one was The Gazebo, which flopped so we did Odd Man In which we had done in London, with just three characters. Derek played the husband, I played the wife and we had a lovely Australian actor, sadly he's dead now, called Noel Ferrier. No, he played the husband, I played the wife and Derek played the intruder. Again, it was a wonderful experience, even went down to Hobart, top to bottom of New Zealand in the winter, very chilly, and in Australia we also went to Brisbane, and it was sort of steamy hot at times. .....

    ..............................

I greatly enjoy the photos (yes!), but this interview you discovered with Ms. Pavlow is fascinating for its details and its sweet honesty about which plays "flopped," her reactions to acting when younger, etc. If I may, I'd like to come back to this article, but for now here are some pics of her and husband Derek in The Gazebo in Australia.

Thanks again for all the research and sharing, Number Six

You're too good to us, Number Six, in finding these wonderful items.

    Barbara
You're welcome - by all means use the pic for the DB thread Barbara.

The photo you found of Muriel and Derek together is lovely. I've been looking for ages for one with no success, so well done to you! I thought that interview was great - very natural and not staged at all. And interesting too, which you can't say for all actors when they're interviewed!

    I'll keep looking!

What a great find! I've only seen one of these four cards for Doc at Large. Muriel, Dirk, and the St. Swithin gang all look as though they had fun filming it, and from reports, they certainly did have a jolly time.

    Thanks again, Number Six.

Before I forget, here are the two DOC posters that were wiped when I reorganized my bucket:

Doctor in the House: it doesn't look like Muriel, but nice to see her in the foreground:

No inscription I'm afraid Barbara, but have a look at this little gem - a Christmas card from 1956, signed by Muriel and with her inscription in Spanish!

This fascinating little gem is a double page spread entitled 'A Schoolgirl Turns Into A Star', which appeared in a 1941 edition of Picture Post magazine, when Muriel was nineteen years of age. The photos show Muriel at home in her bedroom and living room and at work on the stage. A wonderful piece.

Good morning, Barbara. Both of those publicity stills, for Doctor at Large, are thumbnail-size only at Rex Features. I enlarged them but obviously too much if you think they are "a bit fuzzy". Sorry about that. I can try again if you want. I've done the same with these pictures but this time reduced the enlargements, so to speak:

Publicity photo for Doctor in the House (1954)

    Publicity photo for Eyewitness (1956)

    Cheery-bye (as usual),

Here's a stunning portrait of Muriel, this one from a German publicity postcard from around 1950.

In 1956, Muriel made 'Eyewitness', directed by Muriel Box and starring with Donald Sinden, Michael Craig, Nigel Stock and Belinda Lee. The story centres around Lucy (Muriel), who after an argument with her husband, decides to go to the cinema, however once there, she witnesses a robbery. In her frantic efforts to escape the thieves, she runs out into the road and is knocked down by a London Bus and is taken, seriously hurt, to hospital, closely pursued by the thieves, who are intent in finishing her off.

Two charming images of Muriel with Dirk Bogarde during a break in filming the 1954 'Doctor In The House'.Their friendship, very evident in these relaxed moments, continued right up to Dirk's death. He affectionately always refered to her as Mu.

I love this one! Given that inscription, I wonder if she could speak Spanish? She and Mr. Farr seemed to travel all over the globe for their stage and film work.

Thanks for all the images, Number Six,

    Barbara

Muriel as Thelma bringing the tea tray to the airmen in Reach For The Sky. With Bader (Kenny More) are Peel (Jack Watling) and, with his arm in plaster, Streatfield (Nigel Green).

Sorry, Number Six, but that's Jack Watling in the middle, not Lyndon Brook!
