Who can ever forget that Goon's classic with words straight from the heart-
"Ying tong,ying tong,ying tong,ying tong,ying tong liddle i hoe"
All together now..... clap

When i was younger my aunt left me a pile of old 78's but i wasn't musically minded at the time & i'm afraid non of them lasted. They used to break sooooooo easily.

Smudge, i bet you've got Rolf Harris's "Stairway to Heaven" havn't you? What a classic piece of..............

For anyone interested in Bernard Bresslaw's songs and songs of that ilk, there's a CD just released called 'Oh What A Carry On' thats a veritable treasure trove of those type of comedy songs of years gone by from Carry On stars like Cribbens, Williams, James etc etc. Highly recommended if that's your bag. There's 4 with Bernie, though strangely not Mad, Passionate Love (copyright?).

Regarding Arthur Mullard (who doesn't appear on the CD, lackaday!) I always enjoyed his cameos in Hancock's Half Hour and also his very 'Arthur' cameo in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Sad to hear about any 'alleged' wrong doings though, these things do tend to spoil ones enjoyment.

Were they just alleged or were they real?
I don't need to know the gory details, just if they were real or not.

There are a lot of journalists and even some biography writers who refer to any allegation as if it were fact. Especially once someone's dead and can't sue - although they don't always wait that long.

Look at the way the Daily Mail dug out all the worst bits of Dirk Bogarde's biography and then made them sound even worse.

I'm sorry I can't help. The first I heard of it was Smudge's post on the previous page. Couldn't find any info on the web, and I'm quite glad really. It's a shame, but you only need to hear a rumour and it taints the person, especially if you can't find out the facts.

You can't libel the dead Steve, just look what our scum tabloid press were saying about Brian Clough before he was cold.

I don't read the Daily Mail, so I don't know what they printed about Dirk Bogarde. If they were referring to Dirk being homosexual, well, that's no big deal as it was known about for years.

Has anybody here read this new Dirk Bogarde biography yet? I just wondered if there's any mention in it of Dirk wanting to adopt little Jon Whiteley in the early 1950's and of his (Dirk's) friends pursuading him against it, which was something that Dirk was talking about in a BBC2 Arena programme a few years ago. I always thought that you could only adopt a child if it was an orphan and as far as I know, Jon's parents were still alive in the early 1950's. So what was all that about?

The Arthur Mullard stuff is a bit of a 'Daddy Dearest' thing, coming out of 'revelations' made five months after his death. It's the usual story - half the family said he was twisted, the other half quite the opposite. Of course the twisted story gets most press.

Like Steve says, when you're dead such things are difficult to prove or disprove. Other elements of the story may support the sordid tale ; but in the end it's down to the reader.

Most of this stuff can be read once and put away ; it's not often it spoils my enjoyment of a film. I do have trouble getting Sellers past the wife though, since she read the Roger Lewis book....

I saw Mr. Mullard sitting all alone in a pub near Euston some years ago. I approached him and asked to buy him a drink. He said a pint, please. When I returned with his drink I asked him for his autograph. He said, quite loudly, No, now f**ck off and don't bother me again.
Charming.

"How about dat, a? How about dat?
