Default Arthur Mullard

Anyone remember Arthur(Arfa)Mullard? He appeared in numerous films and T.V. shows... Benny Hill, On the Buses etc. He was the archetypal Cockney geezer(Although, strictly speaking he wasn't a cockney being born in Islington)and although erm...he wasn't the greatest of actors, he certainly was an institution. On looking at his history on the IMdb he must have been one of the most uncredited actors in the country, he even had a vocal part(uncredited!)in "101 Dalmations" which was released after his sad demise in 1995...what a strange business the film world is.....

He actualy made a few records despite his terrible voice, a solo called " mad passionate love" and an album with Hylda Baker called "band on the trot" after the wings album "band on the run" they even made it to the charts with their version of Save all your kisses for me.
Sheer unadultarated camp.

It was ‘You’re The One That I Want’ they had a hit with, number 22 in 1978.

Surely "Mad Passionate Love", which was a minor hit, was recorded by Bernard Bresslaw not Arthur Mullard.

Yes, and Arthur Mullard & Hylda Baker even dressed up (sort of) like John Travolta & Olivia Newton John for the video & their appearance on Top of the Pops - not a pretty sight.

Sadly his posthoumous character has taken a beating : him 'allegedly' being very naughty with a close member of the family. Somewhat opposite to his likeable rogue character so oft portrayed...

Further to my earlier contribution, MAD PASSIONATE LOVE 'sung' by Bernard Bresslaw spent 11 weeks in the charts in 1958 reaching No.6.
As far as I know it was never recorded by Arthur Mullard

I used to have that His Master's Voice single but lost it years ago. On the flipside is Bresslaw's send up of Max Bygraves hit "You Need Hands", entitled "You Need Feet", containing the lyrics: "You need feet to walk to Scunthorpe or to dance the Hoochy-Coo."

In a monologue in the middle of the song, Bernard extols the virtues of feet and all you can do with them, ending: "...and when you come home after a hard day's work, you can soak 'em! Yes, folks, feet are not to be sniffed at." It was hilarious.

you are of course absolutely right , it was "youre the one that i want" that made it to the charts.
Bernard Breslaw did indeed record "mad passionate love" but arthur also recorded it, i actualy have a recording, god knows why, and it is not a patch on the B.breslaw version.
I loved him in THE DUSTBIN MEN with Queenie watts.

A lot of these comedy songs were re-released a few years ago on cassette as EMI Comedy Collections ; some really funny stuff...

Bernard Cribbins WINKLE PICKER BLUES, Bresslaw's MAD PASHERNATE LOVE, HOLE IN THE GROUND, RIGHT SAID FRED etc....

Happy memories of (for me) Junior Choice on t'radio :)

Ah you're showing your age Smudge.

Remember Uncle Mac?

Junior Choice always seemed to be playing the same records - THE CHIPMUNKS,TUBBY THE TUBA,THE UGLY DUCKLING,TEDDYBEARS PICNIC ect...

Then we progressed to Family Favourites.

"Come in Cologne....."

Happy Lazy Sunday's :)

Dave.

I inherited my Dad's collection of 78s (78 rpm LP records for those too young to remember them).

These included such children's favourites as The Laughing Policeman and Laughter and Lemons.

But it also included an extensive Benny Goodman collection thumbs_u

The only difficulty is finding any equipment that still play them so that I can then get them recorded onto tape or CD.

Sounds good Steve.

You should try Ebay ; they seem to sell everything and anything on there - mind you hooking it up to modern technology might be something of a challenge...

I recall those 78s being used for 'kiddie' records as late as the early 60s.

Now what happened to all my old Rolf Harris singles ? :)
