I agree Nigel, Carole Lesley was extremely attractive. IIRC she was, at some point, being 'groomed' for stardom (poss Rank Charm School) but she never seemed to quite make it out of the middle tiers.

I thought she gave a very good supporting performance in DRESSING GOWN and showed some potential of what might have been had she got a 'chunky' role like La Dors got in YIELD TO THE NIGHT.

But - sadly - it's a precarious profession filled with egos that need to be boosted, and other insecurities. I don't know - perhaps she was feeling her age, or the good roles were thinning out, and she chose to do what she did. Another tragedy....why ?

@ Jim !

This forum really IS rather informative ! Until now I never knew that Carole Lesley had done glamour work.

Mmm - makes you wonder again about why it all ended so sadly. Did she think the looks were fading ?

Does anyone fancy that actress that appeared as a hard but sexy DHSS Officer in the television series "Bread"?
Her name was Pamela Power and i'm sure she left an impression with everyone that saw her,but dont let that put you off!
The kind of sexy performance that makes you want to sign-on.(Shame about the hair!!)
Please refer to the George A.Cooper thread (page 5) in the Actors & Actresses Forum section for a 'recent'photo.

I wonder whatever happened to her ?

She was by far the best part of, and the only reason I ever watched "Bread"....she was also the reason why I have one arm like a noodle and one like Schwarzeneggers'.....good god! the time I wasted on that woman. Every time she appeared on T.V. it was as though I never existed, what a tease..(bet she's the sort that likes older men though...)

Trouble is, when they become rich and famous they have no time for us little people anymore, they don't keep appointments in The Central or under Dickie Lewis's.....ah well, it's as well I've turned my attention to Kylie, at least she's spoken to me..." oi! what are you doing in those bushes? ".... she said, and I figure the restraining order is merely a way of getting me to try harder.

In all seriousness, Carla Lane may well have done Merseysides image some damage, and as Chirs Morris later showed (Brass Eye) she may well be as mad as a box of badgers, but as far as Bread goes, it was the fine casting of the supporting actors and actresses that gave it its strength, and has helped to keep it in our memory long, long, after many lesser sit-coms have come and thankfully gone ( You Rang M'lud... anyone? )

'course it also helps that she could act bloody well.

Well related Guybrush.
I believe your court case at the Old Bailey comes up shortly!?!
Am i right in thinking that you have either known, met or stalked the great Pamela Power?

Oh,by the way Guybrush i'd keep out of those bushes if i were you...you never know what you might find in there.
Like George Micheal!!

Cheers

Dave.

Words like "end" "stick" and "wrong end of" come to mind.

At least I knew what you meant DB.

(Cheers Guybrush, you're a mate!)
Another British beauty for her time was actress Anne Heywood.
She actually won the Miss Great Britain title in 1949.
Amongst her many talents Anne was also a very good singer. She was born in Handsworth,Birmingham to boot!

Although very feminine, one of her more well known roles was that of a lesbian lover in "The Fox" (1967) which was before it's time in covering the subject.

Also can anyone tell me what happened to the once attractive Lesley Ash ? eek! (Men Behaving Badly).
I only recently saw her with those new inflated lips of her's & at first i didn't recognise her.
That's taking beauty treatment too far.To me the lips now make her look deformed.
What a waste!

Dave.
