![]() ![]() The beautiful Pier Angeli - an Italian born Hollywood actress who throughout the 1960's lived and worked in Europe. She was nominated for a British Academy Film Award for her role in that fine film 'The Angry Silence' (1960) which also starred Richard Attenborough. Pier was also famously associated with screen legend James Dean whom she once described as being the only man she had ever loved. Pier's controlling mother disapproved of Dean because he wasn't Catholic and instead encouraged her daughter to marry Italian-American crooner Vic Damone which she later did. Like what has happened to so many lovely actresses Pier took her own life. She committed suicide in 1971 after taking a barbiturate overdose. She was only 39. Dave. |

As a follow-up on Julie Ege I was surprised to read that she has been out of the film business since 1998 and has been working for the last few years as a registered nurse in Oslo, Norway.
Also, very sorry to hear that she was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2002 and her treatment is on going. She was successfully treated for breast cancer in 1986. Lets hope that she can once again beat this awful disease. Dave. |

Can anyone tell me who was the first actress to appear topless in a mainstream British film?
Could it have been Vanessa Redgrave in the 1966 film Blow Up? Then to go one step further, who was the first actress to appear fully naked in a British cinema release? It would be interesting to see how many years it took the early staid British film industry to start featuring actresses without their clothes and the time it took for the progression on screen from just topless to fully nude. Another interesting question - did British television actually feature topless or naked actresses before British cinema? |

![]() I've always fancied Allison Steadman OBE - a very fine actress who is ALL woman and very sexy with it. Allison was once married to famed director Mike Leigh. She also starred in the comedy series 'The Worst Week Of My Life' playing Sarah Alexander's mother Angela. What a great mother and daughter pairing. ![]() Dave. |

She was also seen to good advantage in Coupling, Smack the Pony, Green Wing, Teachers and many other shows. A great comic actress who oozes sex appeal without having to try. Steve |

Yeah,
Nuts In May is one of Mike Leigh's very best. Never got quite the same acclaim as the likes of "Abigail's Party" but had a great cast and in playing put upon hippie type fluffhead "Candice Marie" Steadman was spot on. Candice is married to a nick picking bore appropriately called "Keith Pratt" (brilliantly played by the always amusing Roger Sloman) and they set off on a camping trip which reveals the full extent of Pratt's manic obsession with order and Candice Marie's passive but gently grating tolerance of all his rules...Their interaction with the other campers is what the play is really about and it is cringeworthy but hilarious stuff. Still available from Amazon and definetely worth a look. A gem of a piece... ************************************************** *************** |

I couldn't stop by and see this, and not leave a little appreciation:
Allison Steadman is one of the great actresses, a personal favorite...and yes - Nuts in May is marvelous! second only to Leigh's Who's Who, of his teleplays. My signature for a while, has been a bit of dialogue that "Keith" (Roger Sloman) says to Steadman's "Candice-Marie" in Nuts in May. Trust me, very recommended for any vegan friends you might have!

Another beautiful young actress worth mentioning is Perdita Weeks, the younger sister of Honeysuckle Weeks.
I spotted her playing the young Beatrix Potter in the film 'Miss Potter' (2006) and her acting talent matches her good looks. She is 21 years of age yet it is very difficult to find any recent photos of her on the web.The only photos I've found were of her as a child actress. Watch out for her. She's sure to break a few hearts. Dave. |

![]() Sorry to hear of the sad death of Anna Nicole Smith at the age of 39. The well known model and TV reality star certainly had a troubled life which has drawn parallels to the life of Marilyn Monroe. Not as talented as Marilyn maybe but in her heyday Anna was quite a stunner. Dave. |
