Now you've got me intrigued - what did Hedy Lamarr invent?

By the way, I think that picture is the epitomy of the word "glamorous"

I know it may seem obvious but has anyone mentioned Vivien Leigh?

Over the last two nights I've watched her again in Waterloo Bridge (1940) and Streetcar Named Desire (1951).
Her biographies often list her as being moody and hard to work with but on the screen she was a rare beauty.

A real English rose.

Heres an interesting "Then and Now" photo set.
The beautiful actress Shirley Eaton pictured in the sixties and then a more recent shot of her.
Still got great pins.

Dave.

Now that, hopefully, a few of you have seen A Cottage on Dartmoor, can I add Norah Baring...a fragile beauty, brings out one's protective side...
And, it occurs to me, a softer, cuter version of Viven Leigh...

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Norah Baring was beautiful. There's a lovely photo of her sitting next to Herbert Marshall in "Murder" (1928) at Google images that I wanted to paste in here, but I couldn't grab it.

There's a fantastic shot of her with Brian Aherne from 'Underground' on the 'sensesofcinema' site, but a bit small... a nice article about Pordenone 2004 there, which was where the some of the rest of the world saw the quality of British Silent film for the first time since talkies arrived... It's a wonderful article and photo. I was tempted to paste in the whole long article, but rethought that. For those fortunate enough to have seen all the Asquith and other silent film offerings at Pordenone 04, I am green with envy! What an amazing lineup that year.

It was...and the British films went down extremely well as you gather...unfortunately some were programmed against Vertov , so some studenty/conventional types missed out.

A real English rose.
I was recently reading the fascinating bio for actor John Merivale. He was involved with some lovely women in his time.
He was once married to shapely and talented American actress Jan Sterling. Later divorced he became a lover and longtime companion to Vivien Leigh, after her divorce from Laurence Olivier. Merivale was by Vivien Leigh's side when she died from tuberculosis in 1967.
In a strange twist of fate Merivale later developed a life threatening kidney condition. Close friend actress Dinah Sheridan took it upon herself to help Merivale through his terminal illness. She learnt to administer kidney dialysis to him. Dinah's care alone helped Merivale live longer than was origionally predicted by doctors. They were to remain together for 20 years.
They married in 1986.
Merivale died in 1990.

Dave.

The current batch of actresses are so disappointing now...with one exception...something about her, nice eyes, nice smile, bright and cute...Liz White, WPC Annie Cartwright in the equally wonderful Life On Mars. There's something about a woman in uniform...she can act, too...

Of the current actresses I'd have to say Natascha McElhone and Rosamund Pike are two lovely ladies but apart from Kiera there are very few British female leads that are under 40.

For me Lena Headey, still in her twenties, an inner sparkle and beauty which was last for ever.
Another slightly older is Josette Simon, stunning and never seems to age.

Both are also very good actors.
