I was only joking about Kenny! However, I believe Hattie left John Le for another man and there was a touch of "La Ronde" about it all. John married Freddie? who had an affair with Tony Hancock, John's mate and also one of Hattie's pals from his radio show.

Has anyone mentioned Susan Shaw on this thread. In the films I've seen her in she was cast as the girl next door, but there was always a dangerous edge to each performance.

Susan Shaw is one of my favourite actresses in British films. Sadly she had a tragic life. After meeting Bonar Colleano while they were both making the excellent 'Pool of London' they married and had a son Mark (now also an actor). Unfortunately, shortly afterwards, Bonar was killed at 34 in a road accident. Susan never really recovered from this and her life was cut short by a drink related illness when she was just 49. I have watched her in a few films recently including Wall of Death and Train of Events. She was a beautiful and talented young actress who was able to portray both selfish and vulnerable characters equally well.

Unfortunately, a number of the sexiest actresses mentioned had tragic lives after their screen days.
Non more than American actress Frances Farmer who suffered six traumatic years in a notoriously abusive American mental hospital. Frances apparantly only had an alcohol problem but with the help of the diabolical Dr.Donald Nicholson, who generally considered political radicals insane, she was committed to the asylum by her own mother Lillian.
While in the asylum Frances suffered electroshock therapy, hydrotherapy and experimental drugs. She was also allegedly raped and tortured. It is also generally believed that she underwent a labotomy at the asylum.

The lovely Barbara Payton was an American actress who appeared in some British films as well. She had concurrent relationships with actors Franchot Tone and Tom Neal which ultimately led to Neal beating the living doodah out of Mr Tone. The Payton/Neal liaison scandalised 50s Hollywood and she became ostracised by the film community, drifting away from the scene. Barbara developed a drink/drugs problem and eventually ended up as a prostitute turning tricks in the back of her car. She died in 1967 aged 39. Tom Neal later served six years for shooting his wife and died in 1972, a year after being released from jail.
