I've just watched NEW TRICKS and was delighted to see the gorgeous Carol Royle looking.............. gorgeous!
According to IMDB she is 53. If that's true, she must have a portrait in the attic.

Has anyone mentioned Sylvia Syms and Susannah York, in their youth they were quite stunning. Going further back, Margaret Lockwood was hot, as were Jean Kent and Sally Gray.

Billie Whitelaw was one of those actresses whose best opportunities came from television (after all she was Jack Warner's daughter in Dixon of Dock Green!) and the theatre. I can't think of any other British actress, apart from Rachel Roberts who displayed such raw sexuality until Glenda Jackson came along in Women in Love.

I'll agree with that, she's a great actress. Who else could have done the Kray's mother so well? There's often a hint of danger or oddness in her characters which I find most appealing. She's worth going out of your way to see on stage or screen.

I love Billie Whitelaw, and I really agree with you steve. I bracket Billie with another of my favourite actors Albert finney , they seem to have this aura that at times is so defiant and they challenge you to think "Is this acting or for real ? "
What a pity I've never seen either on stage , Top of the to do list
