The state of Lesley Ash's lips may be old news to people in Britain but i've only recently seen pictures of her with the 'new'style.
Please compare- BEFORE www.robertworkman.demon.co.uk/ Picture in Casting Portraits section. AFTER www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_736956.html Lee Chapman reportedly likes the new lips. No accounting for style. Dave. [ 01. September 2004, 03:23: Message edited by: David Brent ] |

Welcome back Pam,
Hope you had a good time while away. As screen idols & football feature very heavily on this website i thought i would serve you all a poser for the weekend. Whenever men get together for a drink & heated debate regarding the meaning of life, what is beyond space ect..this poser usually has the strongest of beings baffled to the answer...i have seen grown men shed a tear at the very thought of it.So here it is... You have one day left on earth & you can spend it in only one of two ways. You must choose between- 1. A day of unbridled passion with your all time sexiest/ favourite screen actress/actor (Viagra supplied for OAP's). For the day they are all alive & well. or 2.Ticket's to watch England play in a World Cup Final. (Or the country of your choice - except Scotland..that's too far fetched even when you're dreaming) What do you decide? Who or what do you pick..& what are the deciding factors? An impossible decision for all but Pam. Personally hand on heart i'd probably go for England in the final. But then again.... Pure fantasy but what a choker!?! Dave. |

1: Never gonna happen (if we're talking REAL actors/actresses) unless grave-robbin' & necrophilia's your bag! 2: Never gonna happen unless the Faroe Isles get a bye to the Final! (Yes...I'm a Scotsman with no illusions about OUR national team(??)....<sigh> scarf |

Looking back at British films of the 30's,40's & 50's there was always an innocence surrounding sexual relationships between men & women in the storylines.
Lovers kissed, got to know each other for a week & then got married to have lots of children. No depiction or hint of "hanky panky" before the wedding night. I was wondering which British film actually broke the storyline mould first & had the courage to tackle the topic of sex before marriage? Which Brit movie for it's time was first to show "explicit" nudity scenes between lovers?Did British films reach the "sexual revolution" before Hollywood? I remember the film "Blow-Up"(1966)gaining enormous publicity at it's time due to a topless scene."Saturday Night & Sunday Morning"(1960)was sexually confronting but not explicit. It must have taken a lot of courage in those "prim & proper" days for British scriptwriters, actors & film studio's to cross that thin line into promiscuity.Yet that passage has not been very well documented. Any clues to the films that started the changes in attitude? Also as a matter of interest, which was the very first British film to receive the "X Certificate" (Horror or sexual)by censors before it's release into cinema's? Dave. |

"THE ENTERTAINER" 1960 same year as "SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING" Had the scene in the caravan. "ROOM AT THE TOP" 1959 had the adultary scenes with Simone Signoret. All three caused a stir at the time. I can't recall any other specific title but I'm sure the "X" certificate came in around the "angry young man" time.

It's not complete or 100% accurate, but it's probably better than any other source of information. If you go to the IMDb Power Search, you can search on multiple parameters. I entered Country = UK and Certificate = X to see roughly when the X certificate started. I then added Years = 1951-1959 and it gave me just 12 titles. Of those, Night of the Demon (1957) and The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) would seem to be the contenders for the first X certificate. It doesn't have a UK release date for Night of the Demon but The Curse of Frankenstein was released in the UK on 2 May 1957. Steve |
