I'm no fan of the honours system, but I do think Harriet Walter is an excellent actress. She was absolutely brilliant as the psychologist dabbling in the occult in an episode of Inspector Morse called The Day Of The Devil. It was for me easily the best of the later episodes in the series and Harriet's contribution went a long way to making that possible.

I am very pleased for Dame Harriet, an excellent actress, but also a little suprised and whilst not wishing to take anything away from her award I can think of others who are long overdue this accolade, for example Petula Clark.
She might get one given she still has quite a high profile as they tend to give them to performers who have an 'Indian Summer' in their career like Christopher Lee. Todd did get an OBE for his provincial theatre touring so he wasn't entirely forgotten. George Cole hasn't been promoted beyond his OBE and he is still a regular presence on TV so she is in good company.
Can't see why she should get anything. Perhaps they put names in a hat and pick one out.
Getting an Honour should be awarded for not just being famous but putting that fame to some good use. Something above and beyond your talent which has usually been already rewarded by your equals or by money. The giving of time for others. Be it training or scholarship is best rewarded by an Honour.
