Were you a rocker,teddy-boy,skinhead,bikie or fan of tea dances with Victor Sylvester? Reminds me of that story of the American 'ted' watching a movie at the drive-in. The film was so bad he decided to slash the seats. Dave. |

None of the above. Although, I was in my formative years when Mod happened. My two older brothers were working in clothing shops around that time. The eldest very clean and prim. The younger, somewhere between George Harrison and Ray Davies.
Dave, was this you? My teen years saw the arrival of Punk, Post-Punk, Mod revival and New Wave, but heavy metal and disco are what were "happening" at the time. Those groups took several years to have much influence and those were more flavor of the week in the States than youth cults. I do remember the days when punks and teds and goths roamed the streets in the UK. Now, Drive-Ins there is a post-war phenomenon for you. Very few left. The whole rocker slashing seats in theatres thing, by the way, took form when Blackboard Jungle came out in the 50s. Silly innit. |

Nice photo Gibbie. I wish that was a picture from my past.
Mods & rockers were all the news in the UK (Punch-up's at the seaside)when my family moved to Australia and the scene over here never really matched those 'exciting'times. Gangs existed here like the 'sharpies'who wore short hair & attacked long haired 'surfies'and vice versa. Growing up in the sixties and developing my lifetime love of music my bible was always the latest eedition of MELODY MAKER from the UK. My friends & I followed latest fashions that featured in Brit mags like FABULOUS. We got the music papers & magazines about a month or so after their UK release but it was still the 'latest' news from the UK for us. Probably just like you Gibbie I wouldn't swap those memories for any other times. Dave. |

So, here's a bit of goss... who walks into my workplace the other day?... Anna Friel and David Thewlis...we had quite a nice little chat, Ms Friel says she's doing a project in Cornwall that she couldn't say much about(shame) and Mr Thewlis was taking a few days out to visit her and take in the sights, I didn't know they were mates, did you?...anyway he also said he's off to London shortly to " do some more Harry Potter". Anna Friel IS as lovely in real life as on the screen and David Thewlis seems a good bloke,y'know nice and chatty and down to earth, with no "up yur own **se" I'm a celeb stuff...yep a very pleasant five or so minutes. Regards, Decks.

Dave,
Found this one on the Web. It is Ray Brooks in The Knack. I wasn't in any group, so I never knew the cult thing and punch-ups. There were some good early memories. I liked much of the upbeat music and good times of those early years. Although, I would have rewritten the high school years. Gibbie |

It's a strange thing chaps, but I actually work in Truro, which is the main city in Cornwall(erm... in fact it's the ONLY city in Cornwall!)and what I do for a living isn't terribly glamourous, although it does provide a service that most actors/actresses are quite well known for using. Now because the city is frequented at some point or other by most of said thesps when working in the county, my business tends to get visited quite a lot....now secret as a bit a fun I'll leave it to you to have a guess as to what I do and you will then understand how why I'm lucky enough to meet quite a few famous faces. Remember the clue...it's not that glamourous!( not to include Gibbie coz I think he already knows) anyway it's just for a laugh, so good luck!
