I was talking about this sad event with a friend yesterday. We both commented that his obituaries, like those of many of our great character actors who have died recently (for example, Peter Woodthorpe) have covered their stage careers at the expense of the film and TV roles which the majority of people remember them for.

For me, Robert Lang's greatest role was in the New Avengers episode "Last of the Cybernauts...?", and his marvellous voice was an instantly recognisable presence on TV since I was a boy.

I'm afraid this kind of snobbery is endemic in our broadsheet newpapers.

You could always try writing to them, they may modify the bias if faced with criticism.

Mind you, I wrote to The Times a year ago imploring them not to go tabloid-only. Doesn't look like they took much notice.
