I thought i would start a new Thread for Ian Ogilvy, an Actor who i have always liked and enjoyed watching in several films and many TV programmes, my favourite Ian Ogilvy TV role is Simon Templar in the classic Action Adventure series Return Of The Saint (1978-1979).

Ian Ogilvy has also appeared in many other TV programmes including The Man In Room 17, Orlando, Thirty-Minute Theatre, The Avengers, Out Of The Unknown, Armchair Theatre, Strange Report, Upstairs Downstairs, I, Claudius, The Morecambe & Wise Show, The Two Ronnies, Robin Of Sherwood and Campion.

Ian Ogilvy has also appeared in many films including The Sorcerers (1967), Witchfinder General (1968), Waterloo (1970), From Beyond The Grave (1973), And Now The Screaming Starts (1973) and No Sex Please - We're British (1974).

Ian Ogilvy worked backstage at the Royal Court Theatre in London, before training at RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), he graduated from RADA and then started his acting career.

Ian Ogilvy is also a very successful stage performer and has appeared in many productions.

Ian Ogilvy is also a very successful Novelist and has had many Books published.

Ian Ogilvy was born on September 30th 1943 in Woking, Surrey, England.

Ian's father Francis Ogilvy was an advertising executive whilst his mother Aileen Raymond was an Actress who's first marriage was to the Actor John Mills, Ian's uncle David Ogilvy (who was the brother of his father Francis) was also an advertising executive who has often been called the father of advertising and was the Ogilvy in the famed advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather.

Ian Ogilvy has been married to his second wife Kathryn Holcomb (who was formerly married to the Actor Bruce Boxleitner) since 1992, Ian Ogilvy was previously married to Diane Ogilvy (a former model) with whom he had a son Titus (born 1969) and a step-daughter Emma (born 1963), Ian divorced Diane Ogilvy.

Any other fans of this fine Actor on Brit Movie.

He was lucky Michael Reeves gave him two good roles in a couple of cult classics. Don't know why but I think tv is his medium, he seems to have more presence there than on the big screen.

I have seen him on stage a couple of times and he was pretty good. I enjoyed his performance as Simon Templar. It was a difficult thing to follow Sir Rog, but I think Ogilvy did ok. I agree with DB7 that he tends to get a bit lost in films, although he was good in the two Reeves films.

Ogilvy is a novelist and playwright now - in particular, he has written a series of children's books about a little boy called, Measle.

Thanks for sharing this and your other contributions to this thread Billy. I watched the documentary about the history of The Saint earlier. Ian Ogilvy narrated it with style. A great actor.

Looking forward to catching "The Return Of The Saint" on DVD when budgeting allows. Always liked Ogilvy's understated style.
Wellendcannons, is the documentary you are referring to part of the DVD set or is it something you watched on You Tube?

It's The Saint Steps Onto Television and it's on the Network b&w boxset.

I got Return Of The Saint from Amazon a few years ago. I think I love Ian Ogilvy playing The Saint just as much as Roger Moore.

He was a bit of a clone of Roger Moore in 'Return of the Saint' although I remember being rather interested in him at the time!

Upstairs Downstairs where he played the poet who drives Elizabeth Bellamy to adultery and disgrace was a good part, as was his lead in Witchfinder General, as others have said. He decamped to the US for quite a while didn't he, but never really hit stardom there.

Here are some screencaps of Ian Ogilvy as Simon Templar (also featuring two lovely looking ladies), these screencaps were taken from the Promotional image gallery which is one of the special features on the 7 DVD Box set of the complete series of Return Of The Saint.
