All this talk of Omar Sharif reminds me of the time when Sean Connery was (reputedly) quoted as saying that it was "ok to hit a woman if she ever gets out of line" hopefully that line was not at the nearest McDonalds

Well Sean Connery was very much damned by first wife Diane Cilento for his violence. He denied it, calling her 'mad' I believe. But as you say torinfan he has expressed views which would implicate him.
Women were routinely slapped in many movies, often to stop them being hysterical. They generally looked shocked, and then would fling themselves into the arms of the man who had slapped them. I wonder if they cut those scenes from movies on the TV nowadays, or, as they are probably only in black and white ones, they never get shown anyway.
In 1958, Patrick McGoohan was nicknamed, or an ttempt made to do so by the press at least, the Beast of Pinewood..... In one interview he remarked that he was not an unpleasant man in real life, and in fact did not even beat his wife.....
An example to all of them...........![]()
