With the death of Dulcie Gray today it got me wondering how long it had been since she been filmed - IMDB tells me it was Newsnight in 2000, so she's effectively been preserved aged 83 (she died aged 95). But that's not very long compared to others - Nova Pilbeam is 92 today, and it seems her last appearance on film was in 1948 - I can see no record of any TV appearances etc since then. So she's been off screen 63 years! (And will forever be 29!) Can that be beaten?

Gloria Stuart had a quiet period between 1946 (when she was still playing pretty ingenues) to 1975 and onwards in character roles culminating in Titanic.

Baby LeRoy didn't act for the last 65 years of his life.

This seems as good a place as any to mourn the passing of Alf Fields, star of The Arsenal Stadium Mystery, who presumably hadn't acted since before the war.

Though he apparently did appear on screen a bit more recently (1957, on a panel game show).

Ah! Just the 54 year gap then

Carla Laemmle - possibly the oldest thesp currently working - seems to have had a fairly lengthy career break

    I never knew that

Although Johannes Heesters has made a film this year. He's about three weeks away from his 108th birthday.

I remember her as the passenger in Dracula.

She was taking a break and would go back when she was good and ready
