Default John Collin

Please don't think less of me. I'm not the kind of person who doesn't know/can't recall whether a celebrity has passed on or not [though I did take part in a 1983 College discussion between about a dozen of us students on whether John Le Measuier was still going; he was, and I said so, but three weeks later in an errie coincidence he was gone]...however, I've seriously lost the plot on this craggy northern actor. Never particularly enjoyed his performances, looked like he was an angry Patrick Troughton, and as I came into watching z-cars after he'd left I missed his most notable role. Most famous for me, he played Tess's father in the 1980 film of the same name - and my first cinema 'date' at the Odeon Liverpool. I ramble. imbd says he died in Feb 1987, but I reckon he's still going. I won't bet a fiver though, cos he's been in very little for ages....Who's right?

The IMDb is pretty good, but it isn't infallible.
What makes you think he's still alive? He doesn't appear to have been in anything since a guest role in the All Creatures Grunt and Smell Christmas special in 1983.

Halliwell's is normally more concerned with accuracy - it's ''companion'' for 2002 has him as 1931 -
....so I take it from that he's still alive, but I haven't seen him in anything for donkey years. Maybe I really have stumped this site at last - mind you, knowing this place he'll probably reply in person tonight!

Although Halliwell's Who's Who in the Cinema is very reliable,an edition prior (1997) to my current one listed Robert Raglan (the colonel in Dad's Army) and Danny Green (One Round in the Ladykillers) as both being alive. When I got my current one (published 2003),Raglan died in 1985,Green in 1973.
Now I have just consulted the 2003 edition and John Collin died in 1987.

The IMDb would usually rather leave a date of death as blank, meaning they don't know or that it hasn't been reported, rather than put in a wrong date. They are tightening up on things like that and now, to submit a date of death & have it accepted, you need a few printed obits in publications they know and trust or to be very well known and trustworth with an accurate record of submissions.

I might have blown my record for accuracy in what I submit when I once attempted to get a personal trivia item added for Zsa Zsa Gabor - that it was rumoured that she was ddicted to wedding cake.

They said it gave them a good laugh but they couldn't accept it.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that John Collin had died. 1987 seems about right.
I for one did appreciate his performances. I have fond memories of him as Det Sgt Haggar in Z-Cars though I think he suffered from having to step into the shoes of the much loved John Slater (Det Sgt Stone) when he left the series.
