He was born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent in 1886 and had various jobs before taking up acting including professional boxing. I particularly like his roles in the westerns opposite John Wayne.

His autobiography "Express To Hollywood" was published in 1934. My online research suggests it has never been reprinted and is as rare as hens teeth today. I purchased a copy about 20 years ago from a book search company. I forget how much I paid but I'm certain it was no more than £30 with P & P. The pages are pretty good but the cover is not.

About a year ago someone offered me £150 for it and a London bookseller offered me £200. He said he would have it rebound for £50 and sell it for £400.

I don't want to sell it but I came up with the idea of having it reprinted but haven't a clue how to go about it and was wondering if anyone here could offer advice. I was thinking of about 500 copies.

A few questions spring to mind. How do I find out if it's still copyrighted? How much would it cost to print? How much do I charge for the book? (I was thinking about £25). How do I market it? Would there be enough profit to make it worthwhile?

    Any suggestions please?

If it's a UK copyright, 70 years after death of author, so as VM died in 1959 you've got a few years left to go. The price you have been quoted lies in that edition's rarity I should imagine.

As it's still in copyright everything else is hypothetical.

See P-01: UK Copyright Law fact sheet

If it has US copyright have a look at

Copyright Term and the Public Domain in the United States

According to Wiki ' Towards the end of his life he was naturalised as a U.S. citizen.' so it could come under US law.

Well, it's still in copyright for another 17 years so you need to find out who the copyright owner is. Print on demand might be the way to go.

It was published by Jarrolds Publishers, London so the USA has nothing to do with it.

    Thanks anyway.

It would seem the easiest method would be to contact his son Andrew and ask his permission which I will do if I can find his address.
