When I found this old photo again after years, I felt sure i could solve the mystery without professional help ... but I couldn't , so I've come here.
In the mid-60s, the John Douglas in the signed photo below was a friend or colleague of my Mum and Dad; possibly in Italy, possibly in Soho. So he signed this glossy 8 by 10 to me, with the legend "A real cowboy! John Douglas". I knew even then that this was a cavalry soldier, not a cowboy, but let's leave that.

The point is, the imdb has many John Douglases listed, at least 2 of which could be this one.

And the information on the back is confusing too. "The Flame Barrier" is indeed a film from 1958, but it doens't star any of the people listed, hence the biro crossing out, and the scrawled "Fort Boyd", presumably the name of this film ... Yet no such film exists! Could it have been an episode of something? How is Edward Small Productions involved? And who is Larry Kai?

It's just something that bugs me a bit - any ideas on how to find out who this guy is? (Can't ask the parents, by the way, due to the nature of things). here are the two sides, for your perusal.

    and thanks!

An interesting photo. I searched, and the only movie that had a similar cast was Decision at Sundown (1957), which had Noah Beery, Jr., Valerie French and john Archer, but none of the others. I couldn't find any director or screenwriter by those names, but considering most of the actors' names are misspelled, they might be also. Edward Small Productions produced many films, but the only ones in the 1959-1960 period were Guns, Girls and Gangsters; Timbuktu; Solomon and Sheba; and Vice Raid, none of which could be mistaken for a Western or had any of these cast members. My guess is that this is a still from a film that was never completed, or never began filming (this might be a costume test shot or a publicity photo). I've found similar stills for movies that never ended up being released. As for who John Douglas is, I would bet he is the actor listed on IMDB as appearing in a sole episode of Highway Patrol in 1958.

    Hope this might help,

    Dave W

Thanks, Dave. I wonder of the actors are from two different films, since the original title of the film is wrong: perhaps it's a mix-up? You're probably right that it's 'your' John Douglas, but the other contemporary John Douglas was in an Italian film, which could be a connection. I wonder if it's from Gunsmoke or Have Gun Will Travel or something?

An intriguing mystery there Rowdon. I searched as well & got the same results.

I think in the photo he looks a bit like Jock Mahoney or George Montgomery & I agree with Dave that its probably

a still or publicity shot from some unreleased project.

    Good luck!!
