Check out the following link. There may still be a Panto appearing near where you live. You may be surprised to see some of those old television stars of the past, whom you'd forgotten about.
Check out the archives section too - great fun.

And the best of luck to anyone not brought up in these isles who tries to understand British pantomime
Originating in the Italian Commedia Dell'Arte but now so far beyond it to be almost unrecognisable. Strongly traditional yet also topical. Aimed mainly at children but with plenty for adults as well. Boisterous and chaotic yet rigidly ordered. The hero is a young boy, played by a girl. The Dame is usually the principal boy's mother, played by a man. The Ugly Sisters are comic villains, also played by men. Many pantomimes also have an animal like a cow (two actors in an unconvincing animal costume) as a major character. Then there is also the juveniles and chorus line that gives employment to all the local stage schools.
But if you enter into the spirit of them, they're great fun

It's recommended that you attend with a group of small children. They'll show you how to participate properly
