Default Geoffrey Bayldon

I know that he has been mentioned on this forum before, but we should have a thread dedicated to this fine actor. I watched To Sir With Love last night and he was fantastic, in fact I forgot he was in this film. A film I have not seen for a while Sky West and Crooked also featured Mr. Bayldon, this is another one to dig out again. I know he always gives a good performance, anyone else have a favourite?

Spot on sb, he was in New Tricks last week, still going strong in his eighties. My favourite character was and always will be his 'Crowman' in Worzel Gummidge. His tolerance of Worzel's shenanagins and the courtroom episode where Worzel was tried and the Crowman was the judge.... lovely.

He was 84 last week!

He is one of my favourite actors and, according to an interview he once gave, he was offered the role of the first Dr Who (played by William Hartnell).
Personally, I think he'd make a good Dr Who NOW.

I also loved him in Fort Boyard with Melinda Messenger and Leslie Grantham - but he's excellent in everything he does.
Who could ever forget Catweazle?

I think its about time he was honoured. He seems to be forgotten by the people who give these awards to any old Tom, Dick or Harry.

Catweazle was one of my favourite programmes .... it even gave it's name to a wrestler! Do you remember him? He used to carry a rubber frog into the ring.

Geoffrey Bayldon as Catweazle ...

Geoffrey Bayldon - Catweazle

It is only really since the internet that I knew 'who' Catweazle was. Whenever Mr. Bayldon's voice 'appeared' on TV, I'd say, That's Catweazle.............

The telling-bone.... Brilliant.

After the death of Catweazle a Wrestling reunion club was formed

British Wrestlers Reunion -- Strengthening the Ring of Friendship

Good site and well worth a look.

Returning to the subject of childrens' tv Catweazle I notice IMDB say that there is a Catweazle film in production.

Regards

Freddy

Let us hope that they are not considering recasting the lead - the original part was written for Geoffrey Bayldon by Richard Carpenter, I believe, and a film was already being considered prior to his death (for Geoffrey).

Should we start a campaign do you think?

On the IMDB boards suggestions so far are Rhys Ifans, Bill Nighy and Pierce Brosnan!

...and also somebody suggested the return of Geoffrey Bayldon. If he is still fit enough, his age could not be held against him.

There is only one Catweazle.
