Believe it or not , quite a few years ago while in the full flight of my youth, I was compared by a new girlfriend to a newly famous pop singer who took Britain (and much of Europe) by storm. Another northern lad whose smash hit has just been revived in an unexpected web craze - yes, the one and only Rik Astley! Sadly, this romance lasted about as long as Rik's reign at the summit of pop. I can still hear Nik crooning "our song" Never Gonna Give You Up...
Must dust down my disco flares.
And yes, I can still do all those moves...

My brother knew Rick Astley of sorts, who started life off in a local band called Give Way and then FBI (I think).Me and our kid were brought up in the same home town-Newton-le-Willows in Lancashire. His dad owned the local Garden Centre.
Whilst he was flavour of the month for a short period only,' Never going to give you up' still remains a classic hit.
She must have been blind not to have stayed with you EG!!

To be honest Scholes, she was blind all right - but only because she thought I looked like Rick in the first place! Somebody else told me that I looked like ITV sports presenter Jim Rosenthal !Funny thing was when we split her ma wrote to me asking to keep in touch! Could have been a strange love triangle ! Anway, I was impressed with Astley's measured acceptance of his new found fame. Even when he was mr big he still insisited on paying in to his local nightclub, as he didn't want to take it for granted that the stardom would last forever. Smart man. He now works behind the scenes writing/producing in the music industry - a role he always said he prefers....
