Default Does anyone know what happened to Carmel McSharry?

I remember her in Beryl's Lot and a few other things, but nothing for years.

The last thing I remember her doing was In Sickness And In Health; I thought she was brilliant with Warren Mitchell.
I, too, loved Beryl's Lot.

Sometime in the 90s she had a big hit in the west end taking the lead opposite Nicholas Lyndhurst in a play called Straight and Narrow (by Jimmy Chin).

I remember an Armchair Theatre where she was playing Fay Compton's sister or double. So I am thinking she is probably now retired. Incidently that great double act (Vertigo) Kim Novak is 75 today.

I loved Beryl's lot too!....... loved her role as the upstairs neighbour in 'In Sickness and in Health', I recall one episode that as a staunch Catholic she had to pay 'pennance' for something or other, and that pennance was cooking Alf Garnett a Meal, and Alf was constantly goading her about her pennance, I recall one of her lines in this episode was something like "I hated every minute of it (Cooking the Meal), I 'ope it chokes ya!!"

Carmell also played the Bus Conductoress in the Movie 'Leather Boys', when all the Wedding party hop on to a Bus to travel to the Reception, Beryl Marsden who played Reggies Mum said "good idea going by Bus, more Money for Booze!!"

Carmel I met once on the stairs of the agent Gorden Harboard who at the time was my brothers agent, she was very polite and very Irish, this was in the 1950s

Hi. Brand new here but I hope someone can help me with a question. Is Beryl (Carmel) one of the latest stars in the new Shreddies ad campaign here in the UK. I'm sure she's one of the main Nana's.

This is the ad YouTube - Shreddies 'Knitted by Nanas' TV advert

Hi I am a newbie

I think the last thing I saw Carmel in was the newer Liver Birds which was about 12ish years ago - feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I thought she was great in In Sickness and in Health though that is my strongest memory of her.

My earliest memory of Carmel was playing Nancy in the BBC 60s dramatisation of Oliver Twist with Max Adrian as Fagin. A very powerful performance and I remembered the shock of her death. I remember reading in the RAdio Times that she was to appear in the episode after her death. My Dad assured me that it was a mistake. However I remember the dead body of Nancy being shown at the beginning of the next episode after all. There was apparently questions asked in PArliament about this production. It still exists in the archives and it is a show that I would really like to see again one day. I saw it so long ago and yet it still is vivid in my mind.

She turned up in a couple of episodes of 'Father Ted'
as a crony of Mrs Doyle's, who liked a good gossip...

Be Happy and well
