Default Patrick Barlow

Hi, all

I'm an American, and a new member of this forum.

I have become a fan of Patrick Barlow, through hearing his radio work as Desmond Olivier Dingle at BBC Radio 7.

Any other fans of his here?

Also...any background of him? His first work seems to be in 1980, according to Wikipedia, but that's when he was 33. What was he doing before that?

Hello and welcome.

Patrick Barlow was a late starter, but he's made up for it since
He (and Jim Broadbent) used to do their National Theatre of Brent act (Brent being a small, outer London borough) for some time as a live act and on the radio before they did it on TV.

Patrick played Desmond Olivier Dingle, the leader of the two man National Theatre of Brent. The role of his assistant (or as Desmond likes to call him, "my entire company") has been taken by different actors over the years, including Jim Broadbent (as Wallace), Robert Austin (as Bernard), and John Ramm (as Raymond Box). Between the two of them they would stage vast historic epics - in a reduced form.

But since TV and then film discovered him he's been working almost continually in all media

Thanks for the info.

I know his The 39 Steps is playing here on Broadway, but theater prices being what they are, not to mention cost of travel to New York from Virginia, no way I can go see it. Though I would make the effort if he were starring in it.
