Lugs are ears in Norfolk too. Bugger-lugs is a term of affection, although it's origins have to do with sheep!

Does anyone know the deal about the late Dennis Price and a story I have heard twice know.
It concerns him wanting to be in the film VICTIM because he himself was been blackmailed exactly like Dirk Bogarde's role as Melvin Farr.

Any takers?

Incidently a biog about Price is A BLOODY LONGTIME OVERDUE!!!

Break time at work.

Dennis Price;

Like many I first came across his work with Coronets and Cantebury Tale. I liked what I saw, the effortless charm and good manners. Price shared a flat with Patrick Mcnee-hmm does John Steed remind you of anyone?

Years after I saw the two fine films above I was watching an awful low budget horror film. Price who had a small role in it was by now a overweight shambolic man- and yet his charm won you over!

I became interested in him and of course found out his private life. Not nice alas...

In 2000 I went to Uni to stuy Drama and Media

As part of a final year projcet I wrote a radio play about Price or rather an actor like him. The resarch side saw me write to many who had worked with him. Some reolied some did not. Some were glowing like Barry Humpries, some were honest and terse like Ian Carmicheal and some were blunt like Robin Askwith. All however were positive about the man. I stil have most them.

Price's carrer spanned the astonishing changes in UK cinema during his life. His final days were in the same time the cinema in this country hit the skids. As I have said his carrer is a good platform to view UK movie history. Not a great actor but watchable at all times.

Through my own delvings I know the man's life well but it would be nice to have it in book form.

Can anyone tell me the member who is writing it?

The story I remember being told years ago was that John Gielgud was often caught misbehaving in the Gents loos in Leicester Square but, as he was so respected and loved, the rozzers just gave him a gentle ticking off, put him in a taxi and sent him home!

But that was a long time ago and one wonders how the modern PC cops would react....

It brings to mind one of his lines in the film Arthur, when Arthur is in the bath.....

Hiya, Elliot J Huntley here and I wanted to post a message with regards to the above. I am hoping to have some good news about what will be the third edition of the book. Discussions are ongoing with another publisher who might agree to print the work. The third edition is not an anaesthetised version of the first two editions which did reach the shelves of book stores before being withdrawn but it is fair to say I have refrained from going within a country mile of some of the more exotic rumours about Price. I have always appreciated the support of my fellow Britmovie members on this one, indeed it is virtually the only reason I have persisted with a third attempt and for that I am truly honoured and grateful. I will continue to post when there is news worthy of posting and I remain hopeful that my Dennis Price book - a tribute and a labour of love - will finally reach those who would love to read it. Failing that I could always just post the whole thing on Britmovie but it is in excess of 100,00 words. Is there space?

I almost forgot - I recently did some publicity for the book which can, I am told, be viewed at the following address: Expert Coversations Dennis Price

I will be honest I haven't been able to watch it myself (my pc won't let me for some reason) but I was obviously there and there may be some who hopefully find it interesting. I am told it is not a slick edited for broadcast version so I apologise for any incoherence. I recall being asked about Tunes of Glory and whilst the film is without a masterpiece of British cinema I recall having difficulty recalling anything about the film under the pressure of the camera and lights. For this I hang my head in shame as it's without doubt one of my favourite films.

If anyone does find the time to take a peek don't hesitate to let me know. As I say I haven't seen it yet so it would be interesting to hear or read some feedback, good bad or indifferent, I have thick skin.

Been there, done that
The interviewer springs an unexpected question on you and suddenly all you can do is um, err, mumble.

But the interview generally looks good
