He was on Where Are They Now a few years back, with a goatee, brandishing a shotgun, clay pigeon shooting, and without a hair on his head (probably shaved off).
For me he was one of the best things in FLASH GORDON 1980 as the voice, and presumably the man behind the mask, of Klytus, Emperor Ming's devious assistant. |

John Cartney (Peter Wyngarde):
“Midnight approaches … the witching hour … and as a sign of that hour … as a symbol of all that is evil … as the epitome and purveyor of this night of sins … I give you … the Queen of Sin … Mrs Peel!” ![]() Peter Wyngarde brilliantly portrayed played the wickedly suave John Cleverly Cartney of the Hellfire Club in A Touch of Brimstone (The Avengers 1965/66) – the evil whip-wielding 'aristocratic' adversary of the Queen of Sin - Mrs Emma Peel. Their kinky duel in the cellars of the Hellfire Club was the most controversial scene in the history of The Avengers. Initially, the entire episode was banned in the US; the episode was broadcast in the UK, but the whip-fight scene was heavily censored. The controversial scene has now been fully restored on DVD - this superb episode/scene has subsequently been broadcast completely uncut on Channel 4, ITV1 and BBC4. The Avengers Forever: “While it was banned altogether in the U.S., the episode still aired in the U.K.—but not without some difficulty. Demands were made to cut down the whipping scene at the end, and since that was the version that was distributed worldwide, it would appear that no one has ever seen the complete whipping scene until its debut on A&E video. Well, sort of—it aired on cable in uncut form just a month or so prior to the video/DVD release … Diana Rigg and Peter Wyngarde utterly steal the show …” John Cartney (Peter Wyngarde): “Very impressive … now what are you like with the big boys!”
