Never heard his record, but if my memory serves me well it contained a track titled "The Hippie And The Skinhead". I really enjoyed "The Innocents" (1961 ?) in which he played the ghost.

I've got the track Neville Thumbcatch from that album on a 70s compilation and I think it's excellent. Thankfully PW doesn't try to sing, instead doing the Rex Harrison talking through the song thing.

Gotto admit that Peter had it all way back in the glam 60s
those Mediterranean "gypsie " looks, those pin stipe suits and cravats
he was cool, debonaire,
sophisticated.......... every woman's dream

He had the voice too.... husky, cultured, upper class.

Women used to melt at just one glance from those saphire blue eyes
.... he was irrisistable.

But the fight scenes were a bit unconvincing, he was probably
5ft 1" or something and could nt punch his way out of a paper bag !

But for a while, back in the 60s, he was holding his own and giving those posers Roger Moore and Sean Connery a run for their money !

I always thought Wyngarde usually lost his fights in Dept S, or usually got knocked on the head and left out cold! On the DVD commentary(Network) he relates a chat he had with Roger Moore in which he says he wanted to try and avoid being the invincible tough guy like "The Saint" and he reckoned thats why he didn't really have any problems with people challenging him when he went out to the pub! He also relates an amusing story as to why Dept S was very popular every where in Europe except France. For French TV his voice was dubbed with an effeminate gay French speaking voice along the lines of John Innman! Wyngarde says, " they thought my character was a poof you see so they gave Jason King this ridiculous voice" .....

Blimey, that's brought back memories - I wanted a white suit and kipper tie like PW in the very early 70's - was it The Troubleshooters that inspired that?

Peter is the Best thing in an awful Dr Who story called PLANET OF FIRE. He plays a religous nut so well.

Good actor!

He was on Where Are They Now a few years back, with a goatee, brandishing a shotgun, clay pigeon shooting, and without a hair on his head (probably shaved off).

For me he was one of the best things in FLASH GORDON 1980 as the voice, and presumably the man behind the mask, of Klytus, Emperor Ming's devious assistant.

Default Peter Wyngarde as John Cleverly Cartney in The Avengers

John Cartney (Peter Wyngarde):
“Midnight approaches … the witching hour … and as a sign of that hour … as a symbol of all that is evil … as the epitome and purveyor of this night of sins … I give you … the Queen of Sin … Mrs Peel!”

Peter Wyngarde brilliantly portrayed played the wickedly suave John Cleverly Cartney of the Hellfire Club in A Touch of Brimstone (The Avengers 1965/66) – the evil whip-wielding 'aristocratic' adversary of the Queen of Sin - Mrs Emma Peel.

Their kinky duel in the cellars of the Hellfire Club was the most controversial scene in the history of The Avengers. Initially, the entire episode was banned in the US; the episode was broadcast in the UK, but the whip-fight scene was heavily censored. The controversial scene has now been fully restored on DVD - this superb episode/scene has subsequently been broadcast completely uncut on Channel 4, ITV1 and BBC4.

The Avengers Forever:
“While it was banned altogether in the U.S., the episode still aired in the U.K.—but not without some difficulty. Demands were made to cut down the whipping scene at the end, and since that was the version that was distributed worldwide, it would appear that no one has ever seen the complete whipping scene until its debut on A&E video. Well, sort of—it aired on cable in uncut form just a month or so prior to the video/DVD release … Diana Rigg and Peter Wyngarde utterly steal the show …”

John Cartney (Peter Wyngarde):
“Very impressive … now what are you like with the big boys!”
