Caught a festival screening of Hamlet 2 with Coogan and although it does drag on a bit, it is very, very funny. Coogan plays a failed actor who has taken refuge as a high school drama coach and is staging his own script for Hamlet 2. The opening montage of career acting highlights is a scream.

I was privileged enough to work with Steve Coogan on a few occasions, and compared to other comedians he was extremely professional, by which I mean he was concentrated, listened intelligently to requests, arrived on time, and was word-perfect. I've also always found him hilarious. I think his genius lies in mimickry, even with a made-up character like Partridge. Partridge is made up of lots of little bits of recognizable people and traits (John Motson and Jeremy Clarkson are both in there for example).
Coogan was an early guest on 'The Mrs Merton Show', and he was one of the few people who made Caroline Aherne laugh so much that she came out of character and couldn't carry on with the interview for a while. He came on as a guest immediately after Britain's tallest man, and Caroline asked him if he could impersonate someone that tall. He said he would have a go, and then went, 'I'm taaaallll'. OK, it loses something in the typing, but it was very funny at the time! |

I believe he first started off life as an impressionist in Spitting Image. David Coleman's excitable verbal inflexions during the course of an athletics event were aped to perfection.
Like Mr. Crook, I am also a fan of Tommy Saxondale , the Pest Control man-or Rat Catcher as Raymond would describe him. I think Coogan is a talented individual. The character Gareth Cheeseman always had me in stitches. |

I like the man's work but a mate who was an extra on 24 hour etc siad he was a right c**t. He has said since that he had a cocaine prob at the time and perhaps that accounts for a lot.
I am a manc myself, the probelm with our city is that too much respect is given to the wrong types in this city. No doubt for a while Coogan thought he was a big name hanging around with the cities tough's in our trendy night clubs-full of posers mainly! BUT Coogans Run, Knowing me etc and season 1 of I'm Alan Partridge are some of TV comedies finest hours. A talented comic-quite excellent. Brill comic!!!! |

.I think I prefer Rob Brydon nowadays to Coogan. Liked Partridge but the Pauline Calf thing not to my taste.
