Default John Carson

Can I start a thread for this excellent actor, who was on UK tv a lot in the 1960s and 1970s (currently Mr Knightly in Emma (1972) on BBC4).

His voice always reminded me of James Mason, and he looked a bit like Dirk Bogarde, but he had few film starring roles.....

As he is now over 80, I assume he has retired...the ultimate professional actor....

That unique, velvet, voice with its smooth, round sounds; that effortless charm and general air of 'cool'... I have always admired John Carson's style and his work. From his Edgar Wallaces, through Hammer Horror, to the mild cigar from Benson & Hedges he was (and hopefully remains) wonderful.

Great actor.

I was talking to Don Fearney recently, who runs Hammer events, including the Vampire Circus/Captain Kronos screening later this month, and I asked him if he'd tried to get John Carson on the guest list. Apparently he lives in South Africa now - and he's still acting, too, I'm told!

I watched him last night in a Hammer House of Horror episode, Guardian of the Abyys, he played his part well.

I always liked him, so much so I'll even forgive him providing voice-overs for Tory party broadcasts in the 80s.

That fits in with him doing The Hammer House of Horror and other scary stories

Yes, he was very good in the MIAS episode Dead Man's Shoes. His wife in the episode was actually his real wife and they're still together living in South Africa.

Excellent in Hammer's "Plauge of the Zombies." A well known face in the 60's and 70s not to mention the usual ITC stuff he appeared in. I hope he is in good health and enjoying his well deserved retirement. If he's still acting, I hope he's doing it for the love of it and not because he needs the money. Always has been one of my favourite actors....
