To continue from my last post - I've just had a look on Facebook and there is only a 'Mallens' group on there but not much info - only a few clips from YouTube of some scenes from series, plus a link to a Mallens website. So I guess there is scope for setting up a Gerry group!

I'm on there quite a bit, so I'd definitely join and contribute. If you find it taking up too much time, you can nominate someone as an admin and share the load.

Setting up a group is very easy. I run one for my concert band and now it's set up, it more or less runs itself. If you leave it open, then anyone can post their pictures and stuff. Only took a few minutes to do. I think fan pages are a little more involved.

I've been doing a little more on the website this evening. Once I can get the domain registered (don't ask - an hour on the phone to a call centre in India because I can't login to my domain account! ) I'll probably put it up with a few pages still to go - at least there'll be something to look at then.

I've just had a look at how to set up a group and like you say, seems easy enough! I just had a look at the Billy MacKenzie page (just for an example as I know that he died in 1997 so felt sure that there had to be some sort of tribute there!) just to see what sort of content there was. I might go ahead and set up one for Gerry. I'll just need to type up some brief info. about him I guess but leave it open so everyone can add their own bits and pieces. Obviously a lot of people have already contributed lots of info. here, as well as personal memories of Ged. I'll have to get used to calling him that, rather than Gerry!! However, I don't want to duplicate anything you've done Elly, as you've been thinking about and working on this website for a while and have put a lot of work into getting it off the ground, from what it sounds like!! But I suppose there's no harm in providing another 'avenue' for people to remember Gerry by.

Hi there!
It will be great about facebook. A lot of people go to this page and it would be easier for them to get some info about Ged, anyway, there we could put the website when Ely gets it so it could be easier for people to find it. They'll also know about his movies and everything.

Thank you for thoughts Macarena and welcome to the forum! I will just need a bit of time to sort myself out and write a brief intro. about Gerry for the facebook group and just get on with doing it - unless anyone else does it first!

Hey Lulu,

The Facebook idea is a good suggestion, however, I would caution you to look at the terms before setting up a page in Gerry's name. I am not an expert with Facebook ( I leave that to my daughter). However, with some of these social networks you have to be the authorized representative in order to set up a page.
(In this case perhaps a family memember or such. Not quite sure.)

I'd hate to see you go to all that trouble only to have the Facebook powers shut it down. If it can be done, I for one would love to see it and contribute to his memory.

Cheers,
Ali.

Yes Ali - I understand what you mean - thank you for your concern! I had a quick look last night and read something about that - from what I read, if you set up a group you have to be 'authorised' but I think you can set up an 'unofficial' fan page. I'll read the terms and conditions more closely before I decide to do anything and see what's what!

That wouldn't really matter. We want as many avenues open as possible. Besides, the website will only be very basic to start with. Just a short biog, a few pics and a list of work, along with a few links.

Once it's up and launched, I'd like to try and include a forum (but I need my son's help for that), and then think about posting a few of the newspaper and magazine clips you've posted here. Meantime, if any of you have any anecdotes or links you'd like to share, then I'll be happy to integrate them if you PM them to me.

Default Ged on Facebook

I've done it! I've only just set up a group for Gerry on Facebook so haven't added any extra info. as yet but it's there if anyone wants to add any comments/links/photos etc. Also I thought Elly might want to add link to website when ready. Here's the link to the page Gerry Sundquist | Facebook.

Elly, I needed a photo for Gerry's profile and I've added your Spotlight photo as I thought it was the most suitable so I hope that is okay - any objections then do let me know and I'll remove it and add another.

I don't know whether Fran and Gabby are still reading this forum but if so I hope that they don't have any objections to the facebook group - please let me know if you have and I will close the group. I wasn't going to set it up as I wasn't sure, but just wanted to keep Gerry's memory alive.

I think you may have sent me a PM but because I have less than ten posts here, it says I am not allowed to access it. :-(
Anyhow, I'm so happy to hear about the Facebook page for Gerry. It's a coincidence because just a couple of weeks ago I searched him on there hoping there might be one...and now there is! Thanks for doing that and I will go and join right now!

So glad you found it Bunnygirl - you were obviously meant to! Gerry must have been telling us something! I'd love the group to attract a lot of members and hopefully everyone will add their own info./links/photos/thoughts etc. ...so there is a lot to see on there.xx.

Default TVTimes article, 7th June 1980

Gerry was among the stars asked to recall some childhood memories of their families. This
was to promote a Children's Series on ITV called ExtraOrdinary, starting three days later:
