I always enjoyed watching PANIC IN THE STREETS and 80,000 SUSPECTS as two very different takes on the viral-outbreak story.

Night and the City, thanks Mr. Widmark, funnily I thought of you at the weekend while I was near Hammersmith Bridge. I believe part of the film was made in that area. Also I agree with Rennie, nothing in the papers, ridiculous. A very fine actor, cheers Richard RIP.

He got a small box and picture (Madigan ?) on the bottom of the front page of the New York Times and a two thirds page obituary with four stills from "Night and the City", "Kiss of Death" (smiling wheelchair scene, although Mildred Dunnock isn't smiling), "Judgement at Nuremburg" and
"Cheyenne Autumn". You can go to the NYTimes web site to see it, sorry but i don't know how to attach web sites and all that palaver.

Default Richard Widmark R.I.P

Truly one of the greats of cinema and the last of the stars of the film noir era.
Kiss me Deadly, Panic in the Streets, and Night and the City (filmed in London) are amongst some of the most atmospheric thrillers ever made.
Also he starred in some superb westerns and was excellent as the prosecuter in Judgement at Nuremburg. He was also the victim in Murder on the Orient Express.
A ture professional and perfect gentleman.

The Bedford Incident - one of the most under-rated films of all time as far as I'm concerned. Widmark was absolutely fantastic as the bullying tyrranical skipper.

I heard about it on the news. A great film star.

My understanding is that Richard Widmark was a man of outstanding character. He was one of the most familiar faces in film and on television when I was a boy - I think he was a fine and under-rated actor. I am glad to see so many thoughtful and well written posts in tribute to him here, and even some comments from people who have met him.

Hereafter, in a better world than this,
I shall desire more love and knowledge of you

I loved him, he was even good in the generally considered awful 'Who Dares Wins' (Even though I personally quite liked it for all its sillyness)

Ironically I noticed he was still alive only a few weeks and considered writing to him for his autograph.

Kicking myself for not doing that now.
