Default Sir Dirk Bogarde- Happy Birthday

Hello, Good Friends!

Please join me in a birthday salute to Sir Dirk Bogarde, one of England's finest actors, born the 28th of March, 1921, in Hampstead.

May I share this Bogarde news with you:

To commemorate the first anniversary of
the Official Dirk Bogarde Website, his nephew Brock Van den Bogaerde has added the rare interview Dirk did at the NFT in 1970.

Van den Bogaerde
spent a day in a dubbing studio remastering the John Player Lecture Dirk did at the NFT with Margaret Hinxman just after the filming of Death in Venice in the early 70’s. The resultant clarity is wonderful compared with the poor quality of the original recording.

The interview can be found at the DB website >Archives >NFT Lecture.

The Dirk Bogarde Estate

<
In November 1970 Dirk was interviewed at the National Film Theatre by Margaret Hinxman as part of the John Player Lecture series. Dirk was at his best; relaxed, engaging, forthcoming, sharp, occasionally slanderous but not malicious, and very, very funny. The organisers, Søren Fischer and Brian Baxter, said afterwards that only Billy Wilder had made an audience laugh as much.>

Because the questions from the audience were not easily audible, Van den Bogaerde revoiced them himself, so listen carefully to those questions. It's the excellent voice of Dirk's nephew you are hearing. That would have made Dirk smile.

Due to time pressures, the 1.5 hour long interview is presented with a single image of Dirk plus one of him and organiser Søren Fischer to be in place in time for his birthday. But a "corresponding slide show of over 240 new pictures" is coming soon, maybe in days. Please keep checking the DB website.

All the best,

Barbara

It's a wonderful website and the interview is a great addition. It is sad that often when people leave us we have photographs and perhaps film, but seldom their voice.

Nice to see you back aswell.
