Arthur Lowe as Capt. Mainwaring.................hell, any of the Dad's Army cast!

Bob Hoskins as Harold Shand in TLGF.

Richard Attenborough as Roger Bartlett in TGE.

Richard Todd in The Dambusters.

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

Betty Hutton as Annie Oakley (have you SEEN the early shots with Judy Garland before she left the picture), and Fred Astaire in Easter Parade. It is impossible to envisage it with Gene Kelly, who was supposed to do it until he broke his ankle. On the other hand, Singing in the Rain without him is unthinkable. For Britmovies, Margaret Rutherford as Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit. Come to think of it, Margaret Rutherford in just about anything.

Alastair Sim was offered her part in Passport to Pimlico - I'm not sure I would have had any problems with that!

She was particularly wonderful as Miss Marple.

Arthur Lowe as Capt. Mainwaring
Did you know that Jon Pertwee was the first actor to be offered the part of Mainwaring - but he couldn't do it because he was working in America at the time.

Hard to imagine, isn't it ?

I read somewhere that Le Mesurier was to play Mainwaring and Lowe was to be Sgt Wilson. What a good idea the producers changed their minds!

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

Jimmy Perry originally intended to play Walker but was persuaded he just wouldn't have the time. You can see him in the episode Shooting Pains as a Max Miller-like comic. He probably would have been very good.

PETER O'TOOLE as Henry II and ANTHONY HOPKINS as Richard in the bestest film of all time, ever,THE LION IN WINTER.Even more remarkable that it was Tone's introductory role.

Anti-distinctly minty....
