Default Hattie Jacques Plaque

Hi everyone!, I wonder if anyone would know the street near to the Earl's Court exhibition centre where Hattie Jacques lived?

I recall several years ago now that a plaque was unveiled at her former home and Eric Sykes was one of the Actors at the unveiling, I've tried 'Blue plaque' sites but had no joy

I've also read that when people were queueing to get into Earl's Court she used to come out and give them Cups of Tea!

Thank you Smudge and Captain Wagget..........I was unaware there was a separate Plaque organisation (though I reckon I should have done being a Dusty Springfield fan and visited her former home on several occasions!)

Hopefully I'll post a pic here tomorrow evening!

(if anyone is interested in 'Heritage plaques', here's a link to the one at Dusty's former home)

There's quite a few plaque organisations around. Westminster is full of Green Plaques, some of whom are showbiz types, and there's a different set of London plaques, also green which all commemorate famous Latin Americans, though since they all seem to have been Bolivian ambassadors I can't actually remember who any of them are.

Thanks for the additional info on the Green plaques Captain, as soon as I saw Dame Anna Neagle I clicked and now know something I didn't before!........right, that's my 'Travelcard' day sorted for tomorrow then!........Aldford House looks a big old place but I'm sure I'll find the plaque! (better find a few plasters for the blisters I dare say I'll develop after all that walking too!)

I've heard that Listerine is good for plaque problems. ;-)

Great pics Mark.
Looks like a really nice area.
Did Hattie own the whole house or are they apartments?

Thanks for sharing them.

Dave.

You're welcome David!.........I guess Hattie would have owned the House, but I'm unsure, today it seems all the Houses in the Crescent are now split into Apartments!

Hattie did indeed own the whole house and often 'let' rooms to various friends, some of whom stayed for almost the whole of Hattie's tenure there. I say 'let' as, Hat being Hat - with her typical generosity - just allowed people to move in. I am sure 'rent' was never a feature.

Sadly after Hattie's death the house was sold and split into many smaller units. Andy Merriman's biography of Hattie gives great details of life in Eardley Cres and the superb parties which Hattie used to hold there - sadly no longer possible as the main room was divided into two for the flats...

Not sure who could afford to buy a whole house in that road nowadays. Not me, for sure
