Question Mr Pastry The Lancers

Hello New Friends! I am trying desparately to find out the name of the music that Richard Herne danced to as Mr Pastry. I have found one or two clips of him doing the dance and another of Billy Dainty doing the same. I am keen to re-create the dance for the Amateur Stage. So far I've drawn a blank. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried using Shazam's Music Tag service?

Dial 2580 from a UK mobile, play the clip and hold the phone so the music can be heard. If they recognise it they'll tell you what it is (for £1.50) and give you the chance to download the full track.

If they don't recognise it then there's no premium charge

Definitely The Lancers. Copied many years later by Billy Dainty.

Agreed - I don't know if it's its formal name, but I've known that music as "The Lancers" since as a kid of about 8 I saw Richard Herne doing his act on TV. One of the first two or three performers I recognised well enough to name, and it's nice to see from the You-tube clip linked above that my memories of him as an artist of quality act are not misplaced.

Default Music to Mr Pastrys "The Lancers"

Hi all, I posted early in the month trying to find out if anyone knew the name of the music which Richard Hurne danced to in what is called the lancers.
Folks generally suggested that the music was, in fact, The Lancers.
One suggestion was that it was Guy Mannering Lancers on favourite Scottish melodies by James Scott Skinner.
Unfortunately, it is not this music. Does anyone have any other ideas? Anyone have links with Billy Dainty facts? He did a very funny tribute version of the dance at a Royal variety Show. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

The music you are looking for is actually called "The Lancers" and was played at many a dance in my youth (I am 74 at the moment). You should be able to access sheet music or records/tapes by advertising for it on the net. My best memory of this epic performance by Mr. Pastry was at a Command performance in the mid to late 1960's when he brought the house down at the Palladium. If you find out where to get a copy of the performance, please pass the informtin on to me. My email is sbs1933@gmail.com

U.K singer songwriter Harvey Andrews wrote a very touching triibute to Mr Pastry and took part in a documentary about Richard Hearne, broadcast on Radio Four last autumn, might bet repeated again, so look out for it. This documentary inspired me to look at Hearnes Lancer dance on Youtube.
