Default Stuntman seriously hurt in 2nd Bond crash

"A stuntman working on the new James Bond movie Quantum Of Solace has been left with serious head injuries, after yet another onset car accident. Aris Comninos was driving the Alfa Romeo on a small and windy road near Lake Garda in northern Italy, when he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a wall. Comninos was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Verona, where he has undergone surgery for his injuries. Another stuntman sustained minor injuries after the incident earlier this week. A spokesperson for the town of Limone sul Garda, where the 007 cast and crew have been shooting for the past fortnight, says the accident occurred during a car chase between Bond's Aston Martin and a truck. None of the cast members, nor director Marc Forster, were present at the time of the crash. Filming for the latest spy thriller, starring Daniel Craig as 007, has hit a number of setbacks. Just last Saturday, a limited edition Aston Martin sports car had to be fished out of Lake Garda after it skidded off a narrow road in torrential rain and plunged into the water. Producers were also criticized by the Bolivian government for allegedly "stereotyping" its people when they filmed scenes there, while filming in Chile was briefly halted when the town's mayor objected to the crew's presence."

You mean they didn't climb out the wreckage, rub their sore heads, straighten their quiffs and lapels and stride straight into the casino to win at blackjack..............

How shocking.................

Sounds like a very serious accident with the stunt driver in intensive care with head injuries, makes me wince, broken legs and arms can always mend but head injuries are always a bit of an unknown quantity, hope the guy is ok and recovers fully. This production of Bond does seem to be having a run of bad luck at the moment.

Didn't realise the chap was this badly injured. Hope he pulls through OK. A reminder of the dangers involved in putting up on the screen thrills we simply take for granted........

Indeed, and unlike other race drivers or rally drivers etc, stunt drivers often perform without a crash helmet to add to the realism.

Not good news at all - as has been said above, hope he pulls through OK. I know they get their wage and what have you but those chaps still take some serious risks to put that adventure up on the screen...

According to the Beeb news, latest: "Aris Comninos is in a stable condition".
Thinking of you Aris.

Unfortunately, as these films push the action boundaries, mistakes are bound to happen from time to time. Didn't a cameraman once lose his legs to a helicopter's blades on a previous Bond film? Now I type it, it sounds ridiculous....

That was Johnny Jordan IIRC. He lost a leg in a crash between two of the 'copters in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. He returned to filming though and developed a sort of parachute rig to be slung under a helicopter to enable him to get the action shots on OHMSS, and dramatic they were too.

Sadly Johnny died after he was thrown from a Mitchell B25 whilst making CATCH-22. True to his trade he had been trying to capture the best shots whilst unhindered by his safety harness...

Skeets Kelly died in a similar way while he was filming some aerial shots for Zeppelin (1971)

There was an evidently well-known stuntman killed, making Zarak, imdb says.

Watching some of the battle scenes I'm surprised there was only one. Heaven knows how many horses they went through.

Stunt pilot Paul Mantz was killed filming aerial shots for Flight of the Phoenix (1965).

Stunt men have always took things to the limit, and how they take these chances is beyond me, even way back in the beginning the railway scenes in the Keystone cops was so dangerous, just hope they pull through ok.
