Around 1958 or 59 I was at the cinema on a week night, the hall was only a third full, went to see Ice Cold in Alex, at the interval the lights stayed up for ages and the big picture that should have started at nine oclock still wasnt on , all of a sudden stage was lit and the manager of the cinema came on wearing a tuxedo. he said he had a big surprise for us, the star of the film the lovely, no beautiful, Sylvia Syms was in the theatre and my heart was pounding as thought it was a joke, next thing this vision came walking right down he aisle right past us in a long satin dress with a matching stole , her hair was up in a french roll and she looked fantastic, she got up on that stage and spoke for nearly half an hour, she was amusing and lovely, spoke of her hubby a lot who I think was judo expert if IM right, what a night that was and all for 3/6 old money. great night Ill never forget, I was in aw as young girl.
