Surely that depends on what you are able to laugh at ?
If you only laugh at people with grotesque faces or mannerisms, maybe ... But if you also like witty banter and comic timing, well a woman's appearance is irrelevant. (Having said all that, I must admit that I'm struggling to think of any woman who consistently makes me chuckle ... hmm, Maureen Lipman ? But I think what I like about her is that she is obviously a deep thinker, and has a strong cultural background) |

Beryl Reid, Irene Handel, Joan Hickson, Hattie Jaques and how about Patrica Hayes havent heard anyone mention this late grea actress.
Just realised that all the above have worked with Tony Hancock with the exeption of Joan Hickson. One of my favourite American comedy actresses is Doris Roberts who plays the part of Marie Barone on the oft shown but under appreciated (this side of the pond) Everybody Loves Raymond. Cleary Everybody Doesnt Love Raymond. |

Doris Roberts is also an acomplished stage actress and Director. She has also made many tv appearances in character roles and has been in several other tv series most notably,"Remington Steele."
I have seen her interviewed on American chat show progs on Youtube. She has written a book which is part biography and part cookbook,"Are You Hungry Dear.2, which is a catchprhase on the Raymond show. |

Ah the dulcet tones of Jo Kendall, used to great advantage on radio in I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again and The Burkis Way To Dynamic Living.
Is she still acting nowadays I used to see her small telly parts in the eighties. Talking about actors with distinctive voices who worked on radioanyone remember the actor Bill Wallis. A stalwart of the long running topical series,"Weekending.", he frequently popped up on telly at one time. |
