Richard Wattis
What a busy man he was. I just did a quck count of the number of films he was in as listed in the Radio Times guide to movies, it totted up to about sixty. But they only list films that are currently available to tv. His Imd filmography is obviously bigger.
Of course he did various telly shows playing Mr Brown the neighour in Sykes, a role he rerpised in 1972 when the serries was resurected after a long break.
I am sure that actors of his ilk had a much broader range than they were able to display in film roles.
Years ago i saw Mriiam Karlin in a play, it made me realise that tv can sometimes stifle an actor or actress. Much more to her than the role of Paddy in the Rag Trade, not that there was anythingwrong with that of course a very memorable character.
