There were a whole host of American and Canadian actors whose faces were very familiar on screen and tv at one time.
Off the top of my head I can think of Shane Riimmer, David Healy, Paul Maxwell, ED Bishop, Libby Morris, David Holiday I was trying to think of that guy who played the American in that Fawlty Towers episode, think it was Bruce Boa. Most of the above were used by Gerry Anderson as voice artists on his famous puppet shows. Ed Bishop was Captain Blue in Captain Scarlet and, Shane Rimmer and David Holiday were Scott and Virgil Tracey respectively. Ed Bishop seemed to be busy in most medias, voice over artist on tv regular on Radio Four plays and a star in Andersons live action series,"UFO." Australian actors were also providing voices for American parts, notably Ray Barrett as Comander Shore in Stringray. Britains John Bluthal was good at playing people of different nationalities, this can be witnessed on the record version of the Radio Ham, where he plays various parts. |

There is another thread on this subject somewhere on the forum.

One of my favourites passed away recently in the UK where she had lived for many years. The lovely Kay Callard, who starred in 'Knight Errant' and 'The Vise' back in the fifties. She was born in Toronto, Canada.

One mustn't forget the wonderful Paul Carpenter who apart from screen acting was also a singer for the great Ted Heath Band.

Some years ago I was working as an English language tutor and used a video series called Bid For Power as a teaching aid. It was an early-eighties tale of multi-national business intrigues revolving around the discovery of high-grade sand on a fictional third world island that can be used for making sillicon. So far so rather tedious but I mention it in the context of this thread since in addition to a host of familiar Brit TV actors many of those ex-pat Americans mentioned above also take part including Bruce Boa, David Healey, Ed Bishop and also Ryan Michael whom if memory served was also in a Gold Blend coffee ad. Because the series is a teaching aid everyone speaks rather slowly and tries very hard to enunciate clearly which means even the better actors seem a bit stilted but in the case of Tom Adams and Gareth Hunt makes them appear like Gerry Nderson puppets without the strings, especially Adams who has some very odd and awkward facial and body mannerisms. I've no idea if the series is still available but after using so often I can still recite large chunks of the dialogue which could explain the exclusion zone that opens up around me at parties.......

Remeber that many MGM stars eg Clark Gable,Robert Taylor came over to make films at MGM Borehamwood and Ronald Regan and Vera Ellen came over to make films at ABPC Elstree when they were part owned by Warners.
