I suspect that someone will probably call the police after this admission, but...

Ann Widdicombe (MP)'s voice has a certain resonance with me. It reminds me strongly of my Latin mistress (at school!!). I loved Latin (did it to 'A' level), and hearing Miss W's intonations can make me go all misty-eyed. In common with Miss W, Mrs Griffiths stirred none of 'those' feelings. I can still conjugate, but rarely decline.

And that, Your Honour, is the case for the Defence

I think she might be single at the moment, one can live in hope I suppose. There is one fantastic Hugh Grant film I would highly recommend to see the lovely Tara I think you can probably guess which one Im thinking of!

I read somewhere that she had recently split from a long term boyfriend ( a well known actor whose names escapes me). I thik I know which film you mean ... she was also impressive in that TV drama with Jennifer Ehle.

Waking the Dead finishes next week ... Mondays and Tuesdays just won't be the same ....

Fine actor and all that but Roger Livesey always sounded like he had a piece of Battenburg cake stuck in his throat!

Joan Greenwood was very husky and purry!

Leo Gordon and Lee Van Cleef both had interesting voices, along with Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre, Cary Grant, Jeff Chandler, Kirk Douglas and Alan Ladd. James Mason's diction was particulary wonderful in 'North by NorthWest' I think.

I like Sam West's voice - the king of the voice overs, but he's a damned fine actor too.

And the amazing Martin Jarvis, Mr Audio Book.

Not an actor, but William Burroughs - absolutely dessicated.

Kathryn Hunter.

There are many (mainly of the female variety) who would disagree about Mr Livesey's voice. I found a thread on the IMDb message board for IKWIG where they sing his praises.

A few samples:
"I wouldn't throw him out of bed for eating biscuits."

"a film historian doing commentary decribes Livesey's voice as 'warmly brown.'
I never thought of voices having any particular colour, but it's true!"

"I wish I could live inside Roger Livesey's voice.
It would be safe and warm and wonderful in there."

"I love the guy. He's just the sort of man you could imagine yourself growing old together with."

This was when she lived in Thorne Street Barnes in SW London but she moved away some time ago. Lovely bum, too!
