From yesteryear I would plump for Cecil Parker. He always sounded as if he was just slightly out of breath. The late Jeremy Brett had a distinctive voice. Of the actors who are still with us I think that Sam West has a marvelous tonal quality to his voice.

Oops, forgot the actresses.

The best female voice has to be Margaret Rutherford, closely followed by Shirley Eaton.

Peter Cushing had wonderful pronunciation and you are quite right to remind us. A very soft spoken gentleman with a gentle nature. Voices such as his are very rare now in actors today. He was very kind to me once when I was just starting at theatre school when I wrote to ask for advice on becoming an actress and I received two helpful letters from him. I found out later, his beloved wife was very ill during this period and shortly thereafter died. That he took the time at such a moment in his life was truly kind.

Someone also mentioned the late great Ian Richardson another beautiful voice and sadly missed!

Ian Richardson – Yes. I saw him as Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet in the late '70s. Wonderful voice, great actor.

James Mason, Ronald Colman, and Christopher Lee – all good voices.
