Default Roddy McDowell

I have enjoyed Roddy McDowells performances in many films that have been show in the States. Since his career has last for so many years till his death, I wonder if he ever gave out any real insight on some of the actors or actresses he has worked with??? I would love to find out that he wrote a book about the many people he did work in movies with.

I like Roddy McDowell especially in Planet of the apes! Great!

He was probably the first American star that I admired.

Does anyone know what happened to his collection of film memorabilia....?? His collection was fabled, as he had been collecting since childhood, when memorabilia was inexpensive, and had the money and the connections to acquire pieces easily all his life....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I dont know if you get the Biography channel on cable where you live if you do you may find that Roddy Mcdowell is being interviewed about one of the subjects the documetaries tend to be a few years old and I have seen interviews that Roddy gave prior to his death.

I recall an episode of Ironside which had Roddy Mcdowell guest star as part of a group of improvised comedians, he was very good in that.

There is a fair bit about his collection on the IMD biog.I saw Just William recently in which he featured as one of Williams chums.

I watched that recently - it's quite funny. Roddy is a lot better than the boy who played William, who's OK but not very lively.

You should watch It! (1966) in which he really hams it up as a deranged museum keeper in charge of an indestructable stone monster.

I made mention in a separate thread of a film Roddy McDowell directed in 1970 called Tam Lin. I seem be one of the few people who has ever seen it ( I caught it on video in the mid-80s ) but I hope that a few others did as well since its an interesting little film, based on an old Scots ballad with an excellent cast. Worth checking out if you can track it down.

It's a shame Roddy never wrote an autobiography. He did do several books of photographs in which the comments about the subjects were written by other stars. Well worth looking out for.

In his book "Red Carpets" Rupert Everett writes about his friendship with Roddy and mentions he had a statue from one of the APES films in his garden. Very cool!
