Default John Forbes Robertson, Robert Russell & Bruce Purchase (RIP)

Various sources reporting the passing of:

John Forbes Robertson (1928 - 05/14/2008)

Robert Russell (1937 - 05/12/2008)

Bruce Purchase (1938 - 06/08/2008)

Mr Purchase left an indelible impression as the barking mad Pirate Captain in The Doctor Who story The Pirate Planet among others...

Sorry to hear news of yet more additions to that great silver screen repertory in the sky...

I had the pleasure of meeting John Fforbes-Robertson many years ago at a Hammer Films event. He was a very polite, friendly and unassuming man.

May they all rest in peace.

Respect,

Smudge

I was just about to pose a query about Robert Russell. Just watched him, playing another heavy who beats up Frank Marker in "Public Eye." Looking at his career, he always used to play heavies and convincing he is too! Checked out the IMDB and found his last piece of work was in 1993. He was good in "Witchfinder General." I was about to ask what happened to him and what he had been up to lately but it looks as though you've answered the question. RIP Mr Russell and thanks for your performances......

Time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man...

I watched that Public Eye episode the other day as well ..... and JFR was an excellent Dracula in Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires.

RIP gentlemen.

Bat-Quiz 13 is up and running in the competition thread - 24/8/8.

Sad. I worked with Bruce Purchase in MacBeth in rep in 1976. Enjoyable experience.

I asked him to look at the body. That's who he is.

Good grief, I'd no idea he'd died! I used to see him around Barnes quite often and I think he had a one man show in the village last year.

Very fine actor. RIP.
