Default Jack Woolgar 30 years

It doesn't seem like it, but my old mate and business partner, actor, writer and poet JACK WOOLGAR died thirty years ago today. Even after all this time I often think of him. He was such fun to be with. Time passes so quickly.

As soon as I saw the name I thought 'that rings a bell', and of course checking IMDB it was Carney from Crossroads! (I soap I admit I once enjoyed, during the 'Meg' years).......he was a popular character, my cousin named one of her dogs Carney at the time, plus he was great mates with Benny, I also recall him in the Film 'Deathline'.......

Time flies indeed Kelp, but it's nice that you keep his memory alive

I was watching THE DOUBLE DECKERS weekend before last and he turned up in that and, as with Mark, 'proper' CROSSROADS was a staple in our house too.

Here's to his memory once again.

Yes nice that he is still remembered, I remember when his old boss turned up in Crossroads and called him Carne, carry this get that etc. Yes I used to watch a bit of Crossroads too, but his cv was more than that.

LOL!.......I was just thinking of the time when Carney dropped a tray of crockery in the Motel Reception through shock when his old 'Master' whom he was Man-Servant too arrived.......bit of a long shot but does anyone know his name?

That`s a nice touch Kelp, it sounds such a coincidence; but in this last week I have seen Jack in an episode of The Sweeney; where he played a night watchman, and also an episode of Budgie in which he also made an appearence, both these were watched completely at random; so how weird to see your thread appear. He was another of those actors who seemed to pop up in all sorts of programmes.

His son Tim Woolgar, who runs the tribute site. is ( or at least was until earlier this year) a member of this site.

"I've agreed with you from the first about the danger. But now I think you are utterly mistaken".

I know Tim, and used to see him often when we were shooting on location. I have sent him a pm to see if he would like some of his fathers poetry to place on the website, along with a few bits n' pieces.
Yes Jack was an ever present reliable actor. He used to say "If you want a reliable dirty old tramp...send for Jack Woolgar"
Not many like him left now.

How sad. The current DVD release has reached August 1978, so I'm assuming there are no more episodes featuring Woolgar's character yet to release.

I have been trying to remember the childrens series on ITV in the late sixties that Jack was in. Whatever it was called it marked the first time I had ever saw Jack on tv.

I dont know much about Jack but I am very interested to discover that he wrote poetry.

When ever I think of Jack Woolgar as Carney, Jack Haig also comes to mind as Archie Gibbs, Jack Haig was another stalwart of tv. Does anyone know if Jack Haig ever played Dame in panto. I saw Dick Wittington in the Swansea Grand Theatre in 1967 and sure that Jack H might have been Dame.

Jack Woolgar was one of the stars of the missing Doctor Who story - The Web of Fear. This was the first story to star Lethbridge Stewart. Sadly only the first episode of this still exists. JAck also played the Professor in the original TV version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe with Liz Crowther (Leslie's daughter). I believe that only 2 episodes of this still exist.
Jack was a great actor.

How ironic that you should mention Jack Haig. Jack was also a friend. He lived in Sutton Coldfield not far where I live. A really nice chap, always put me in mind of Andy Clyde the American actor.
