'Tis true. Roger was born at 138 Holton Road, Barry, S. Wales on 25th June 1906.

The whole Livesey clan (all actors who ran a touring theatre) were based in Barry for some time. Roger even had a cousin called Barrie

In the Powell & Pressburger group (Roger did his finest film work with them) we are working on a biography of Roger. Because he was such a nice man, friendly and kind to everyone, happily married with no scandal, no biography publisher is interested. So we're just doing it on the web.

I've just read the biography and it's fascinating stuff. It makes me wonder why film fans seem to adore the self-centred, shallow, greedy and in many cases, untalented, "stars" of the cinema, when people like Roger Livesey are an example of how someone looked upon stardom as a privelege, and the benefits and status that came with it just provided the means, the clout and the opportunity to help other people!

His grandfather was an example to many who have not yet achieved their ambition in life, and to jack in a job and buy a mobile theatre and tour with his wife and kids the way he did was nothing more than remarkable! His grandparents' story would have made a very good Powell and Pressburger type of film!

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"

Many thanks for sharing this very interesting information via the wonders of the WWW Steve, and what a delightful man Roger Livesey sounded. Currently enjoying watching him in the Pallisers at the moment.

Credit is really due to Lou Volpe & Lynn Copestake who are doing most of the work.
I just help out where I can and offer encouragement
