Do you remember "Quintessential English Rose"? It had collected some articles about Jenny and I downloaded some of them. Do you want me to send them to you?

There is mention of Agutter in a MISS MARPLE tale - in some cameo. But that made me think - I wonder if she will age into a character like MISS MARPLE? Would be interesting...

Take a heck of a long time for that to happen - in my opinion!

Actually, it's a good question. I'm seeing her in a couple of weeks and I'll try to remember to ask if she has any thoughts of playing such a role in the future.

It could be interesting to see a Miss Marple that wasn't greyed. Maybe a "Missy Marple" or "Young Marple" or something. Like everything, though, "Good Is Good" and nothing else matters. She's had an interesting career and I don't know that she'd appreciate having her feet nailed to a role that's often been reserved for the end of a career.

Maybe I'm still mulling over Mirren's crime-drama roles too much!

I'm not sure that a younger Miss Marple would work. To me, it seems essential that Miss Marple is a middle-aged spinster - she has no close family ties to restrict her observations of village life and she is grey enough to merge almost unnoticed into the background.

Too attractive an actress just wouldn't work - in my opinion.

They could do it like Smallville. She could be in her teens, they could set it in modern times, and she could solve crimes inbetween school lessons, shopping and boyfriends.

Fell, the idea of an as-attractive-as-JenA Miss Marple seems even more compelling in my mind. In my favorite Marple episodes, she often uses her feminine charm and wile to gain her ultimate advantage. The younger version wouldn't be any different.

Or maybe she'd get married but, while leaving, she'd be trapped on a snowy road with the surviving henchmen who'd do a drive-by shooting, killing her new husband and leaving her as Miss Marple all over again. "He's only resting," she could say.

No wait... maybe that's been done before. I keep seeing skis on the car's roof rack and bad German accents everywhere.

Brrrr... sniffles, anyone? Allergies?

I think JA is a) too attractive and b) too tall...she's meant to be a mousey spinster, her acute intelligence hidden. Too much of a stretch even for her undoubted talents....
Can Jane Horrocks do a Southern Counties accent?? I hasten to add that I think she's gorgeous, but she has done mousey...

I've never heard he do one, but she could do all the accents in Little Voice. Not just singing, also when speaking as "Dorothy" like "Lions and tigers and bears! Oh, my!" and as "Marilyn" with "My heart belongs to Daddy"

But I think she might fail at your clause (a) above.
Maybe not conventionally attractive but I really like the way she looks as well.

Yes, she is that type of girl that you would not cast second look to, but actually becomes attractive as you get used to her face and find things you like about it. It was like that with my first ever girlfriend. She was very plain and I did wonder if I was selling myself short to begin with, but she grew on me. I think that is valuable lesson I learn, so now I do not instantly dismiss woman if attraction is not immediate. If I like her and she has good figure I am willing to give her chance.

On another note, Jenny's topic has had 50,000 hits. I wonder if that makes it most viewed topic on here? Many of those will come from me but not all 50,000. It is quite impressive.

Glad someone else said it!

Actually, when I think about it, Jenny did do mousey and downtrodden very well in the recent Poirot - so well in fact that if I hadn't been talking to her just a few days previously I would have thought she had aged considerably.

I'd see Jenny playing a more robust character than a Miss Marple. I thought she was superbly cast as Tessa Phillips in Spooks and was able to depict the perfect maturity, ruthlessness and allure that was essential to the role. I'd contrast that with Amanda Burton in The Commander [although I only ever saw a couple of epsiodes] who just looked tarty.

Cherie Lunghi is the only other actress I can think of who would have a hope of approaching Jenny in such a role as that of Tessa Phillips.

Don't see why not - variety of accents should be one of the signs of a good actress! I was surprised to discover she was only 5' 2" - always seemed taller than that.

Don't blame me ;-) I only found this site by accident and got sidetracked into
a long thread about JA.

I thought I was all alone in being:

a) a British film nut
b) a JA "fan"

I get a bit annoyed at some of the more exploitative scenes in her films, just like to see her smiling face and hear that voice.

I was lucky enought to meet her briefly at Collectormania but the security guy who took our photo didn't press the shutter so I got nothing

I've never met anyone really famous before so I was fairly dumbstruck, she must have thought I was a moron, ah well.
