I saw Jenny Agutter for the first time in a film about the conflict in Ireland. I was a boy - it was in the 70s. I don't remember the title. She was superb - and so was the film. (I don't know if it was made for television or for release in theatres?) Then I saw her in The Railway Children when it was shown on television.

She was one of the few very young actresses who really knew how to act. That scene at the end of The Railway Children is still so vivid many year later.

Then I saw her in Logan's Run a few years later and she had turned into a very good looking and sexy woman - much prettier than I would have expected.

That was War of Children - made for television.

I defy anyone with an iota of emotion not to be moved by that scene!

She is still absolutely incredible in every way - not that I'm biased, of course

I've just found DOMINIQUE (IS DEAD) on DVD and enjoyed seeing Jenny in that film.

Jenny Agutter was a nasty piece of work in the tv series Spooks though and if you have ever seen the series you will know why.

Watched The Survivor last night with JA and Robert Powell. Strange Australian film, although made in 1981 it had the feeling of a late 60s offering. Directed by David Hemmings, there was a cameo appearance by Tim Rice as a TV reporter. Far too many dramatic pauses with intrusive mood music to make it a pleasant film to watch.

Rather odd, I'd agree.

Pity the previous programme over-ran by ten minutes so that my recording lost the ending

That's OK, thanks. I already have it as a commercial dvd and also recorded from TV but was hoping for a better quality TV recording - my new recorder seems to produce a much better quality dvd somehow.

Spoke to Jenny briefly this morning - she'd gone straight from holiday to Leipzig for some children's book readings [Hamburg Toons] and is beginning filming for a new TV series next week. I think the press release is on Tuesday so I'd better say no more. That may delay the Q&A further but I'll be speaking to her next week so will mention it.

Just spoken to Jenny on a day off from her new series. She's made a start on the Q&A but it is misplaced at the moment because she has been away from home so much for the last couple of months. I may have to send it to her again when her email is up and running again. She was very apologetic.

Desperados should be on BBC in the second half of April.

Jenny is in New Tricks tomorrow, BBC 1, 9pm.

A repeat but a welcome one.

With the added advantage of none of those awful channel logos!

And in The Twilight Zone half an hour earlier.

Walkabout is on Channel 5 on 5 April - clashes with The Railway Children on ITV3.

Default A War of Children

Finally managed to get hold of A War of Children - I'd never seen it before and don't think it has ever been shown in the UK.

A nice idea for a film, though somewhat disjointed, it almost looked as if it had been cut but the runtime corresponds with that shown on IMDb although it is nearly 13 minutes shorter than the time given on the BBFC site. There are certainly at least two occasions where I felt something was missing.

As it appears to be a CBS production, it looks as if the dialogue was based very much on an American idea of Irish and English speech and there certainly seemed to be some strange ideas as to how an English soldier, unarmed and in uniform, could get around in Belfast at the time..

Jenny was just Jenny - bit strange hearing her Irish accent though! She was ably supported by Anthony Andrews as Reg and John Ronane as her father.

Is this the 'daytime' /Disney edited version ?

It is a travesty of the film......
