I suppose actually, it is a (fruitless) compliment that, given the opportunity to have her, the BBC could not resist having her, even thought they seem not to have not the slightest idea what to do with her.........

This makes it all the more baffling that they haven't at least traded on her iconic and genuine global status to help *sell* their invisible series. The whole thing smells of nobody at the BBC having the faintest idea what they're actually doing.

Hopefully she's getting a few quid for her trouble........

Well, I'm glad some one else said it!

My own thoughts on The Invisibles, both positive and negative, will remain with me alone.

IIRC the original premise for the series was that they were retired businessman?

Having stayed with it up till now but there really is very little to encourage the viewing public to continue with it.

Would have perhaps been far better if Warren Clarke stayed at home as the house husband of JA and it was left to her and the other two to have adventures.

That emergency cord in the bathroom needs pulling.

I think I'd rather Warren Clark got to spoon over Jan Francis. I knew she was in from the first week of filming so at least half the scripts must have been prepared before shooting began.

Having now heard from Jenny, I feel happy to air my view.

I'll start by saying I'm not too happy about crooks being glamorised even though, as Jenny said, in their retirement they seem to be acting more as Robin Hood.

Certainly a first-rate cast that deserved better scripts and location - I thought the "luxury" retirement flats looked decidedly down market with their cheap doors.

The most incongruous aspect that I found in the first episode, and I told her so, was seeing Jenny looking like a million dollars and obviously fit [tennis and cycling] acting as host to her new neighbours who must have been old enough to be her parents! And I couldn't really see her looking forward to life with a sitdown shower!

William Ivory claimed to have interviewed those in the 50+ age group about their thoughts and plans on retirement - pity he hadn't asked the cast.

For me the whole thing doesn't sit right and having a 21 year old daughter who seemed content with living in that environment, well, I would have wanted my 21 year old daughter to give me a good kick up the backside.

Fell, I always thought Jenny was a yoga enthusiast, I seem to remember reading it years ago.

To be fair, I think she is only there for a week's "reading time" from university - though I'm sure it'll last the rest of the series!

She is - and swimming! However, I was actually referring to the clear sign that her character was fit as she arrived back at the flats on a bicycle with a tennis racket in her bag.

Default Jenny and The Railway Children

It seems unbelievable that it is forty years ago this afternoon that Jenny first appeared on our screens as Bobbie:

Jenny Agutter: News Page

My own comments on each image shall remain between myself and Jenny

A very happy anniversary!

Default Ballerina

I had the pleasure of watching a young Jennifer Agutter (per credits) in Disney's Ballerina (1966) tonight. I was expecting Jenny to be just one of the dancers but she had significant screen time throughtout the show. She speaks her RP very well but in a little girl's voice that hasn't yet reached the richness found as early as Star!

She plays quite a cheeky little girl and overall it was a wonderful role to start her career with. Much thanks is due to whoever placed her in this show and credits so prominently. All of the other children are fairly anonymous and Jenny leads all her scenes with them. Jenny also plays young friend to a star dancer and encourages her and helps her overcome her insecurities. As a child, Jenny's pert nose wasn't as distinctive a feature as it is now but you can always tell it is Jenny when she smiles (which she does a lot). My young daughters also enjoyed this show.

Ballerina is timeless enough that it should be reintroduced and made available to the public. It is of higher quality and non-saccharine then most children's fare. There is enough of a story and romance with the other characters to keep adults modestly interested.

On Monday evening I celebrated the 40th anniversary of Jenny's first appearance as Bobbie by watching the 1968 version in full in one go. It really was delightful and brought back so many memories not just of the series but my own, innocent youthful days.

The odd thing is that, apart from Jenny's appearances, the most abiding memory I'd had of it was Gordon Gostelow as Perks - yet I don't recall ever having seen him in anything else!

I did feel that the one way in which the 1968 version scored over 1970 was that I felt it was probably truer to Nesbit's own radical beliefs - especially when mother was explaining to Bobbie the reasons for her father's imprisonment.

Jenny was on Breakfast time this morning and I was delighted to get my email read out to her onscreen - although I'm expecting her to tell me off for asking what she was doing for dinner!

Looking at IMDB, Gordon Gostelow has quite a few appearances but I've not seen any of these.

Daring to ask a political question, what are Jenny's thoughts on Nesbit's beliefs and the Fabians. Are they part of her attraction to the book/author or just baggage that comes along with something that was an important part of her career.

I would never reveal anything about Jenny's political leanings unless it were readily available on the web. That said, I think we have enough in common over many issues that I'd be hard pressed not to vote for her!

Jenny on being asked by Fell what she was doing for dinner - BBC Breakfast on Wednesday morning:

He doesn't dare say what was in the text he sent her just before then or her reply five minutes later!

I'm ashamed to say that although I'm a big fan of the 1970 film and Jenny generally I was not aware of the earlier 1968 version at all until recently! Possibly, this is because I was out of the country in 1968 and never saw it as a young'un.
Are there any pics from the earlier version? Particularly of Jenny??
Thanks
