Finally got around to watching The Wild Duck.
It was a chore to watch with mostly unlikeable characters. It might as well have been in B&W as it was so gray. Jenny was the one bright spot of cheer.

I was dissappointed and expecting more after Tahhh's rave reviews on imdb "Jenny Agutter's greatest performance". Her character was a bit dimensionless but she didn't have much to work with other than being the adoring daughter. A better staging would have had her at least wear something bright to further distinguish her from the dismal, unhappy people around her. I think she had to do what she did in the end as the only recourse to get off of that depressing stage.

As anybody seen her in the other Play of the Month - The Cherry Orchard" (1971)?

I would agree that it wasn't Jenny's greatest performance, fine though it was, no-one has ever done naif [sic], wide-eyed innocence better. I would disagree over her character being dimensionless - after all, she was only supposed to be 13 so one wouldn't expect too much depth.

Though I thoroughly enjoyed Denholm Elliot's portrayal as well, I did feel that he and Derek Godfrey were a good ten years too old for the characters they played. Since they were in their late forties, it meant the defining moment in the story occurred in their early thirties and I'd have been surprised if Hjalmar [DE] had fallen for it! I would have thought Hjalmar should have been more like twenty at the time - at least that would have made it plausible.

I honestly can't remember - which probably means know as I wouldn't forget Jenny!

However, should I ever go to London again, the main reason will be to view it at the BFI.

I agree it was a good portrayal of wide-eyed innocence (naif) despite the bad lot the character had received in life. Jenny was exceptionally good at that portrayal as a child actress.

It probably intentionally led to the numerous very opposite roles later as a way to break away from the child actress image. I watched some of Beulah Land yesterday where she plays - you guessed it - a prostitute/mistress again. Of course acting the role as rebellion is much better than living it as other Disney child stars have done.

I would make no claims to being a huge Jenny Agutter fan or a keen follower of 'The Invisibles', but I'm utterly baffled by the complete lack of excitement by the TV press about her cameo role in that show. All the press seem to chunner on about is some bloke who used to be in charge of the coffee machine.

What a strange showbiz world it is........

Me2 - although I'm actually rather pleased.

When I saw her in the red jumpsuit, I did suggest an improvement but I'm still waiting for her response.

I really wish someone would right her a decent part rather than simply seeing her as a fragrant two minute addition to each episode.

I'm sticking with THE INVISIBLES for now, but I have to say that at the end of episode two it's still a bit plodding. The job itself was OK, but getting to it was somewhat tortuous. As you say, Jenny is (thus far) woefully underused...

Same here, I watched this weeks episode but I felt detached from the story and my mind kept drifting off. I think it lacks credibility, I just can't imagine them as safecrackers. It's like New Tricks from the other side of the fence.

I tried watching this week's episode - but kept dozing off
It's not the best plotted series and most of the characters are totally unbelievable (except for Jenny of course )

I expect some are surprised that I haven't commented much on The Invisibles. The reason is simple, I've emailed Jenny my views on it and don't want to say anything until I've heard back from her. She was away for the first episode, didn't get back until Tuesday and was away immediately filming Monday, Monday so I haven't had a reply from her yet. As soon as I do, I will give my honest opinion.

I gave up when the coffee bloke made plain that he found being at home with Jenny a bit boring and unexciting.........
Out the window went any believability........

Then he started playing with himself, wearing a pink blindfold..........

Clearly, caffeine is as dangerous as they say...............

Mind you I did fully agree with Moor's comment:
